Pikky & Rhino: A new animated series celebrating friendship in the savannah
The world of children's animation is enriched by a new project that promises to touch the hearts of young and old alike. Monello Productions, a Parisian studio part of the Banijay Kids & Family group, has announced the development of Pikky & Rhino, an original animated series that will debut at the upcoming Cartoon Forum.
A special friendship at the center of the narrative
The series, created by Cécile Sady and Ahmed Guerrouache, takes us to the African savannah to tell the story of two truly unique protagonists: Pikky, a small, energetic bird, and Rhino, a kind-hearted rhinoceros. They're not the usual unlikely friends so common in cartoons, but something deeper and more authentic.
What's striking about this production is the scientific approach underlying the story. The relationship between the two characters is inspired by the phenomenon of mutualistic symbiosis observed in nature between various bird species and large African mammals. Pikky takes care of Rhino's hygiene, removing parasites and debris, while the rhino offers protection, food, and companionship to his small avian friend.
More than a natural science lesson
What might seem like a simple nature documentary for children actually turns into a broader reflection on the themes of friendship, loyalty, and interdependence. The series, designed for children aged 6-9, doesn't just showcase this symbiotic relationship, but explores it emotionally.
The conflict comes from the other animals of the plains who, envious of Pikky's abilities and the pair's perfect understanding, create tension and rivalry. This is where the series finds its narrative balance: each episode becomes an opportunity to explore how true friendship can withstand external temptations and social pressures.
An experienced creative team
Behind Pikky & Rhino There's a team that's no stranger to international success. Giorgio Welter and Cécile Sady, who also serve as producers, have already demonstrated their ability to create quality content with series such as Max and Maestro, street-football e Hello Kitty: Super Style!Their experience in balancing entertainment and education is evident in the premise of this new project.
Monello Productions, founded in 2013, has carved out a significant niche for itself in the European animation scene over the years, specializing in content that not only entertains but also offers food for thought and growth for young audiences.
