Today in Annecy, DreamWorks Animation and Universal offered a preview of the film   outgoing The cat with stivali : The last wish , which will be released in American theaters the 21 December . The film is a sequel to 2011's Puss in Boots  a   spin moves  -off of the franchise Shrek first introduced in 2001.

“It's been over a decade since the last movie The cat  with stivali and we all wanted to leverage the latest technological advances to tell a meaningful new story about this fascinating character, ”veteran producer Mark Swift highlighted during the presentation. “It is basically someone who becomes his own mortality, which makes him see the value of his life and realize what is truly important in this world. "

Sequel director Joel Crawford ( The Croods: A New Age ) added: “I've always been a huge fan of the world of Shrek , because it is full of great characters and the cat  it has always been one of my favorites. But beyond that, our film deals with really interesting themes. The story is built on this incredible and ridiculous premise that the cat  it is in its last life. But within this premise is this important message about how we make life meaningful, useful, and special. We treat this metaphor in a fun and playful way, and then we base it on a theme that is universal for everyone ”.

The creative team behind the film wanted to broaden the definition of what a CG animated film should look like. “We wanted to give the film a more painterly feel,” said Swift, whose numerous credits include Penguins of Madagascar, Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie e The Croods: A New Age . “Our feature goes far beyond the look of a plastic toy that is often associated with CG animation. Since the cat  lives in a fairytale world, our goal was to give the film a fairytale illustrative look. By changing the way we treated textures, surfaces and even backgrounds, we made his world much more interesting and captivating ”.

Development graphics created for Puss in Boots: The Last Wish shows the lush pictorial feel of the film.

Award-winning production designer Nate Wragg, whose numerous DreamWorks credits include  The Croods: A New Age  e  Captain Underpants: The First Epic Movie, explained: “I worked as an artist on the first Il cat  with stivalimovie 12 years ago. Our main character is so hilarious and charming and being able to bring that character back for a new movie was very exciting. For this film, we put this character who has never had a care in the world in an awkward place. Also, we are updating the life and charm of this franchise with all the tools we now have in our possession. We are forcing the computer to be more artistic than it normally would be. The films associated with the Shrek CG era aimed at a certain sense of realism. "

“Since the cat coming from a fairytale world, it made sense to breathe new life into it by taking this more illustrative approach, ”added Wragg. “Our main character has also undergone a subtle update by removing some of the realistic elements and trends. For example, his fur still looks like fur, but we wanted it to look painted rather than a realistic CG simulation. It was very rewarding to visualize this world in this new style ”.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish find our milk-loving hero (voiced by Antonio Banderas) who discovers he has burned eight of his nine lives and must embark on his biggest quest ever, with more than a little help from Kitty Soft Paws (Salma Hayek) and the exuberant puppy Perro (Harvey Guillén) - to find the Wish Star and heal his life.

The voice cast also includes Florence Pugh as Goldilocks crime boss, John Mulaney as "Big" Jack Horner, Wagner Moura as the bounty hunter The Big Bad Wolf, Olivia Colman, Ray Winstone, Samson Kayo, Anthony Mendez and Da'Vine Joy Randolph. Chris Meledandri is the executive producer.
