According to Variety, Chinese visual effects and animation studio Base FX has filed a lawsuit alleging that two American film producers defrauded investors for $ 234 million. The accused scammers, Remington Chase and Kevin Robl, allegedly involved Base FX in several financing deals and a joint venture in Malaysia for a multi-year "long scam", created fake entities and bank accounts, impersonated and forged the signature of the CEO of Chris Bremble and even set up a fake Pasadena office.

Base FX employs around 450 people and has VFX credits on The Avengers, Iron Man and The Mandalorian, as well as producing the animated film Wish Dragon. The company is now facing claims and lawsuits from investors who would be duped by Chase and Robl's portrayal of their business relationship. Base FX is unable to account for any of the funds and claims that the accused - who appears to be in the wind - appears to have kept the millions to himself.
