Apple TV + orders "Strange Planet" from comedian Nathan Pyle and Dan Harmon


Apple TV + ordered directly in series for Strange planet, a new animated series from Emmy-winning co-creators and executive producers Dan Harmon (Rick and Morty, Community) and Nathan Pyle, who created the beloved webcomic and best-selling graphic novels of the same name.

The show will tell deep and heartfelt stories of beings on a distant planet not unlike ours. Amalia Levari will serve as the showrunner of the extravagant and comedic series.

Strange planet is produced by Apple Studios and the award-winning animation studio and production company ShadowMachine (BoJack Horseman, Final Space). Alex Bulkley and Corey Campodonico are executive producers of ShadowMachine. Steve Levy and Taylor Alexy Pyle are also executive producers on the project.

Harmon is the creator and executive producer of longtime comedy series Community, earning multiple Emmy nominations, Critics Choice Awards, and other accolades. He is also the co-creator and executive producer of Rick and Morty, which won Emmy for Best Animated Program in 2018 and 2020. In 2015, he executive produced the Oscar-nominated animated film Anomalisa.

Strange planet joins the upcoming Apple Originals roster to be produced by Apple Studios, including live-action projects from top creators like Martin Scorsese, Steven Spielberg, Tom Hanks, Susannah Grant, and more. The streamer's original animated series includes adult musical sitcoms Central park and series for children and families Doug unplugs, Stillwater, Snoopy in space e The Snoopy show.

After its launch on November 1, 2019, Apple TV + became the first fully original streaming service to be launched worldwide (available in over 100 countries and regions) and premiered multiple original hits and received multiple awards than rewards faster than any other streaming service in its debut. To date, Apple's original films, documentaries and series have been honored with 116 wins and 389 award nominations.
