'Asterix' conquers Netflix in the new 3D series by French author Alain Chabat

On Wednesday morning in a blog post on the company, Netflix director of original animation (global independent TV) Dominique Bazay revealed that the streamer is welcoming a new 3D animated series starring the beloved fight Gaul of the French comics, Asterix! The series was created in collaboration with Les Editions Albert René (France) from the publisher Hachette and is expected to debut in 2023.

“I am thrilled to announce that Netflix and the leading French publisher are teaming up to introduce Asterix, an iconic figure of French popular culture, to a new generation of viewers around the world… I've been talking to Albert Rene's Celeste Surugue for years about how to bring Asterix to Netflix. We have built a great relationship of trust and mutual respect around our love for these characters, ”Bazay wrote. “I am French-Canadian and, like most French speakers around the world, I grew up with Asterix, his partner Obelix and his faithful companion Dogmatix. I watched the animated specials and read the books religiously. If I had told the eight year old that one day I would help bring these characters to life… I would not have believed you! "

The series will be directed by French author and playwright Alain Chabat, who wrote and directed the highly successful live-action film Asterix Asterix and Obelix: Mission Cleopatra - the third highest-grossing film in French history. Alain Goldman of Legende Films will produce.

Bazay also revealed that the series will be adapted from one of the classic volumes of the 60-year-old comic, Asterix and the great battle: “… The Romans, after being constantly embarrassed by Asterix and his village cohorts, organize a brawl between rival Gallic chiefs and try to fix the result by kidnapping a druid along with his much needed magic potion. I'm not revealing anything when I tell you, it doesn't go as planned. "

Created by René Goscinny and Albert Uderzo, Asterix first appeared in 1961 and their adventures have been published in 38 volumes in 111 languages (a 39th is coming this year) and adapted into 15 feature films since 1967. Their history is one of barbaric pride, as the small but mighty warrior of Gaul and his colorful countrymen fight to keep their home free from incompetent Roman conquerors.
