The cartoon of Belfy and Lillibit (original title Mori no yoki wa kobitotachi Belfy to Lilibit) aired for the first time on Italia 1 in 1982, so before Memole sweet Memole e David Gnome, other very nice cartoon goblins. Belfy and Lillibit is a 1980 production by the Tatsunoko studio, based on the stories of Shigera Yanagawa and Tomoyuki Miyata and is divided into 26 episodes.

The protagonists are the two friendly elves Belfy and Lillibit, who play happy and carefree, in the woods, moving from branch to branch, on the back of a flying squirrel or a swallow. Belfy is a little girl with long blond hair, wearing a red hooded dress, while Lillibit dresses in blue and loves playing the flute. The two young people are part of the village of the elves, of the men who live in small houses in the woods, in peace and harmony with all the animals. Some, however, are to be feared, such as the rapacious hawk, always ready to attack the little elves, but luckily some animal always comes to their aid to get them out of trouble. Belfy and Lillibit live their adventures together with their friends, Snagglebit, the mayor's son in love with Belfy, Bit, Browniebit and Teenybit, Lillibit's sister.

Teenybit is friends with the elderly Scarybit, who is marginalized from the village as they believe she is a witch, but Teenybit is the only one who understands her need for company. Among the other characters we find Dr. Snoozabit, Belfy's uncle, the woodcutter Chopabit, the baker Bakeabit, Grumpabit the father of Lillibit, Helpabit the eldest elf. Snoozabit adopted Belfy soon after her parents died when she was still very young. The favorite pastime of Belfy and Lillibit is to explore the world of animals, getting to know frogs, bulls, squirrels, fish and horses, which will enrich their experience and treasure the precious teachings, especially regarding respect for the environment. .
