Carol & the End of the World – the animated series for adults on Netflix

An animated adventure that explores everyday monotony in a world on the brink of apocalypse, created by the mind behind “Community” and “Rick and Morty.”

Netflix is ready to welcome into its catalog a new limited adult animation series, “Carol & the End of the World”, created by the renowned writer Dan Guterman, known for his work on “Community” and “Rick and Morty”. The series, animated by Bardel Entertainment, is scheduled to debut on December 15, promising to introduce an unusual perspective on the impending end of the world through the eyes of its protagonist.

“Carol & the End of the World” focuses on the story of Carol, played by Martha Kelly (“Euphoria”, “Baskets”), a quiet and perpetually uncomfortable woman, who finds herself lost in a sea of hedonistic masses while a mysterious planet is approaching Earth threateningly, heralding the extinction of humanity. While most people feel liberated to pursue their wildest dreams in the face of the apocalypse, Carol emerges as a solitary figure, a symbol of poignant normality.

Dan Guterman describes the series as “a love letter to routine. A show about the comfort of monotony. An animated existential comedy about the daily rituals that make up the interstices that make up a life." This thoughtful approach promises to offer an intimate and perhaps even comforting look at everyday life, even when faced with the unimaginable.

Alongside Kelly, the voice cast boasts talents such as Beth Grant, Lawrence Pressman, Kimberly Hébert Gregory, Mel Rodriguez, Bridget Everett, Michael Chernus and Delbert Hunt, each of whom bring a unique character and emotional depth to their respective characters.

The series, consisting of 10 episodes lasting half an hour each, is executive produced by Guterman himself together with Donick Cary, known for his work on “The Simpsons”, “Parks and Recreation”, and “Silicon Valley”, while Kevin Arrieta serves as co-executive producer. The production of the animation was entrusted to Bardel Entertainment Inc., a guarantee in the field.

With “Carol & the End of the World”, Netflix continues to expand its offering of animation for adults, introducing stories that challenge the traditional boundaries of the genre, pushing audiences to reflect on profound and universal themes such as existence, routine and the very meaning of life, all this with the typical touch of black humor and sagacity that characterizes Guterman's productions.
