The cartoon of Charlotte (original title wakasuka no Charlotte) was made by Nippon Animation in 1977 for a total of 30 episodes and was broadcast for the first time in Italy in 1980 on Italia 1. To make it famous was also the theme song "Charlotte's Song". Currently it is always broadcast on Italy 1 from Monday to Friday at 7,50 am. Charlotte is a 12-year-old girl characterized by a sweet and determined character, who lives with her father on a ranch in Canada, surrounded by cows, horses and sheep that obey her with a simple whistle, where we also find the cute little lamb Fiocco, which Charlotte is very fond of. To help Mr. Andrè in the management of the ranch there is also the family of Mr. Garson, employees who dream of one day becoming the owners of the ranch.
Charlotte is awaiting the arrival of her French mother, whom she hasn't seen for more than 10 years, and no matter how hard she can do, she can't remember her face since she separated from her when she was only a few months old. Charlotte thinks about how her mother could be and takes as a reference those of her friends, who however appear to her all with a thousand defects, also sees her father changed waiting for his wife's arrival and realizes that she can lose all the exclusive attention that he could only have with her. Charlotte even gets to argue with her father, but then they quickly make up as her father understands Charlotte's doubts and fears about that meeting. One day Charlotte's father heads to the port of Quebec to meet his wife, but a violent storm comes and he doesn't return home.Sandy, the herdsman boy who helps Mr. Andrè, gives Charlotte the sad news of the accident to his father, and the desperate girl, gets on the horse and runs with Sandy to meet his father, but unfortunately they are stopped by a sudden landslide caused by the storm that overwhelms the two boys. Charlotte and Sandy are saved by a miracle and Charlotte wakes up in her bedroom bed. Returning to the place she finds the local men, who try to clear the road leading to the port of Québec from the landslide that interrupted the way. Charlotte does not rest easy and while trying to help move the heavy stones (with poor results), she glimpses a boat on the sea with a man on board who seems to be her father. It is the realities of the mysterious blond knight who came to get her.
Unfortunately he tells her the sad truth about his father. The ship that was taking his mother to the port had run aground and was sinking due to the storm, so his father who was in the port, unable to stay and watch the scene, took a boat and went to save it, but he was also overwhelmed. it from the waves. Arriving at the port of Québec, Charlotte and the knight head to the hospital that collects the survivors of the shipwreck and among them is a woman who in delirium calls the name of "Char". Charlotte, while not recognizing her face, senses that this is her mother and holds her hand all night, but unfortunately, once awakened, the beautiful lady claims she does not know the girl, who bursts into tears of tears and disappointment. The lady as a sign of thanks for being watched by Charlotte gives the girl a pendant with the star of Spica, her favorite. On the way home she finds a little hamster, whom she calls Spica and since then they will never be separated, as Charlotte is sure she is completely alone. At her father's funeral, Charlotte shows up with all the animals on the ranch (cows, sheep, horses, chickens, etc.) so that they too can give the last farewell to those who raised them with so much care and attention. All this happens amid the general indignation of the Gordon family and the Garsons, the servants of the ranch who do not tolerate the gestures of the girl and who want to take over the property, now that Charlotte is left alone. In fact, soon Mrs. Becky with Belle, her nasty daughter, move their beds into Charlotte's house and Mr. Garson fires Sandy to take some of Mr. Gordon's men, in order to get hold of the deceased Mr. Andrè's property. Charlotte and Sandy go to Québec to see Mr. Jan, whom they identify as the ideal person to manage the ranches, but sadly he has moved to another city. Mrs. Gordon, the wife of the richest man in town and mother of little Sammy, wants to adopt Charlotte, but she refuses under the illusion that she can run the ranch with the help of the Garsons.
But one day she receives a letter from her grandfather Duke of Monform, who is in France, who invites her to come to him to receive a just noble education. Here Charlotte learns the true story of her parents. Being of a noble family, the Duke of Monform does not look favorably on the marriage between his son and Simona, a girl of a modest family, therefore thanks to a diabolical stratagem he separated the two cougars. In France Charlotte reunites with her mother, but despite her grandfather's words, the girl senses something strange in that figure to which she feels she does not belong, and in fact it is her aunt. His real mother is in fact in Canada and Charlotte was brought to France by her grandfather, only in order not to be able to meet her. Will the unfortunate girl be able to finally see her real mother and crown her dream of love with the blond knight? Lately Shin Vision has renewed the rights to the cartoon and has been remastered and re-doubled for its next DVD release. <
