The films and animated series for children at the Cinekid Festival 2020

Cinekid for professionals has selected for its 20 films and TV series for children to be distributed in 19 countries around the world. On Junior Co-production Market (JCM), which will be held online October 22-23 during the Cinekid Festival, the projects will be presented to international professionals of the children's media industry to encourage international cooperation and to put these promising projects into production.

The selection includes both live-action and animation projects from renowned emerging children's media companies from around the world, such as Copenhagen Bombay Production ApS (DK), De Mensen (BE), Les Valseurs (FR), Malabar Producciones SRL (AR ), Rinkel Film (NL), Trident Film (UA), Baltic Pine Films (LV), Lucan Studio (ZA) and Señal Colombia (CO).

The junior co-production market enables global funders, broadcasters and producers to evaluate these new and innovative film and television projects, all underlining the high degree of interactivity and funding potential in these sectors. All projects will be presented in an online environment designed to encourage international cooperation between project representatives and potential collaborators and funders.

Cinekid for Professionals Online will run from 19th to 23rd October, register online.

The success of previous JCM editions is clearly visible in this year's festival program. The Cinekid Festival opens with the animated film Calamity, A Childhood of Martha Jane Cannary by Rémi Chayé, produced by Maybe Movies (FR) and Nørlum (DK), selected for the Best Film for Children competition. The project was presented at the Junior Co-production Market in 2017.

Two other JCM films will compete for the award for best children's film: the Israeli film Sky Raiders (JCM 2015), produced by United Channel Movies (IL) e Summer rebels (JCM 2016) directed by Martina Sakova, produced by Projector23 (DE).

Two preschool series are selected for the official 2020 program: Hungry Bear Tales (Tales of Hungry Bear) by Kateřina Karhánková and Alexandra Májová, produced by Bionaut (CZ), e musicians by Meike Fehre and produced by Ahoifilm (DE). These projects participated in JCM in 2016 and 2017 respectively.

Alongside these films are three previous JCM projects participating in the Best Dutch Series competition. These are Heirs of the night by Diederik van Rooijen, produced by Lemming Film (JCM 2013); Dropje by Lilian Sijbesma, Meikeminne Clinckspoor and Maarten van Voornveld, produced by Submarine Film (JCM 2016); is Remy en Juliyat by Tessa Schram, produced by NL Film & TV (JCM 2017).

This year's JCM selection includes a project developed during Cinekid script LAB 2019-2020 program. The production company Rinkel Film from the Netherlands is selected with their project Red, written by Job Tichelman and Camiel Schouwenaar, who is also the director.

Two prizes will be awarded at the JCM 2020. The prestigious Eurimages Award for the development of co-production (€ 20.000 in cash) will be awarded to the best eligible film project with European co-production potential. The Filmmore Post-Production Award will be awarded for the best live-action project. This award is intended to stimulate collaboration with the Dutch visual effects and post production laboratory Filmmore. The award, which comes with a prize of € 5.000, is an invitation to start a longer and more fruitful collaboration with the company. All winners will be announced on Thursday 22 October.
