The Comic Market 99 event moves from winter 2020 to 2021 gold week

The Comic Book Market Committee on Sunday announced it plans to move the event (Comic 99) of the winter comic market from this winter to the Golden Week holidays of 2021 (which will take place from April to May 2021).

The committee cited scheduling issues considering the Tokyo Big Sight East Exhibition Hall will remain unavailable until autumn 2021 due to the Olympics and the difficulty of taking preventive measures limiting the maximum capacity of each area due to the new coronavirus disease (COVID-19). The committee also said it is considering projects for the 45th anniversary of Comic in December, as well as a “plane Comic“Golden week event.

Il Comic Event 98 scheduled for May 2-5 has been canceled to help prevent the spread of COVID-19. The event was scheduled for May instead of the normal August calendar due to the Tokyo 2020 Olympics which will be held between July and August. However, the Tokyo 2020 Olympics are now postponed to a start scheduled for July 23, 2021.

Tokyo recently saw an increase in COVID-19 cases. Sunday was the fourth consecutive day in Tokyo with more than 200 new cases reported.
