Creature Commandos – The 2024 animated series

Creature Commandos is an upcoming American animated television series, produced by DC Studios and Warner Bros. Animation, based on the DC Comics comics starring the team of the same name. With all seven episodes written by James Gunn, the series focuses on a black ops team of monsters assembled by Amanda Waller.

The cast includes high-calibre actors such as Frank Grillo, Maria Bakalova, Indira Varma, Zoë Chao, Alan Tudyk, David Harbour, Sean Gunn and Steve Agee. Creature Commandos will be released on Max, the streaming service, in late 2024 and will be part of chapter one of DCU: Gods and Monsters.

The series follows Amanda Waller as she assembles a black ops team called the Creature Commandos, which includes characters such as Rick Flag Sr., Nina Mazursky, Doctor Phosphorus, Eric Frankenstein, Bride of Frankenstein, G.I. Robot, and Weasel. Viola Davis will reprise her role as Amanda Waller from previous DC media.

James Gunn, after signing on to write and direct The Suicide Squad in 2018, became co-CEO of DC Studios alongside Peter Safran in 2022, beginning the development of an eight-to-ten-year plan for the DC Universe. Creature Commandos has been announced as part of this plan, with production already underway and the cast revealed starting in April 2023.

With an expected release towards the end of 2024, Creature Commandos promises to be a "hard R" series with fun and edgy tones, with James Gunn confirming that some of the series' stars would appear in future live-action DCU projects. The characteristic design of the series was entrusted to the animation studio Bobbypills.

Ultimately, Creature Commandos promises to be a compelling animated series that will be part of the expansion of the DC Universe, with an exceptional cast and an exciting plot that keeps comic fans' expectations high.
