Crunchyroll Unveils Cast Of 'FreakAngels' Preview; New + Ultra titles

Crunchyroll has a lot to offer today, with the announcement of two new titles coming to its programming partnership + Ultra, as well as the reveal of the voice cast and the preview of the first episode of its latest original series.

Fans take a first look FreakAngels, the upcoming Crunchyroll Original series that follows the story of a small group of psychics struggling to survive in London's last borough, with the full English-language voice cast revealed. Based on Warren Elllis' post-apocalyptic graphic novel, the series will debut January 27 in 200 countries and territories, with subtitles available in English, Spanish, Portuguese, French, German, Russian and Arabic.

Synopsis: Welcome to Whitechapel: humanity's last bastion. Six years ago, the world "ended" in a single apocalyptic event, trapping Britain behind a mysterious dome of purple energy. The last district of London persevered thanks to the protection of the "FreakAngels", a small group of twenty-three with psychic powers. Their fragile peace, however, is threatened when an exiled friend returns, exposing past conspiracies and new conflicts within their fragmented and improvised family. Can Whitechapel Survive? Featuring the character design of Hiroshi Shimizu (MEGALOBOX, Blue Exorcist, Lupine III) and the artistic direction of Studio Ghibli alum Osamu Masuyama (Made in Abyss).

Characters and cast:

These series are the first of many to come from the trio's + Ultra programming partnership, announced in 2021, to jointly develop and co-produce anime series to be broadcast in Japan on Fuji TV's Ultra Midnight + anime block (launched in October). 2018) and for streaming on Crunchyroll in more than 200 countries and territories.

Square Enix (Dragon Quest; Final fantasy series) will develop the tie-in mobile game. The theatrical anime feature film, Estab-Life Revengers' Road, will tell a new story, based on the anime series and mobile game, with Goro Taniguchi directing and writing the script.

A new original story from the famous mangaka Tsutomu Nihei (Aposimz, Knight of Sidonia, GUILT!), Ooyukiumi no Kaina (working title) follows the journey of Kaina and Liliha (working name), two young people from different worlds, whose journey to save the world begins with their introduction. Hiroak Ando (listeners; Ajin: semi-human) is the director of the anime series. Polygon images (GUILT !, Knight of Sidonia) will develop the animation. The series will debut in January 2023.

A manga in the series will be drawn by Itoe Takemoto (The player of the beast) and published in Monthly Shōnen Sirius by Kodansha starting February 26, 2022. Kodansha will make the English simulpub manga available on Crunchyroll.
