DanDaDan – Episode 4: “Turbo Grandma Down” – Story and Review

The crash you didn't know you wanted to see… until it hit you at 300 miles an hour.

So, if up to this point you thought that DanDaDan if it was just a nonsense shonen with aliens and demonic spirits, this episode makes one thing clear: anything goes here. Even racing for your life against a possessed grandmother who goes faster than a racing motorbike.

The Beginning: Momo and Okarun, the Strategy of Despair

The episode opens with Momo and Okarun finally deciding to face Turbo Grandma openly (or rather, with your legs up). The idea is as crazy as it is effective: lure her into the tunnel where it all began, force her to chase them and exploit her ego to get her out of her “spiritual territory”. Because you know, every spirit has its own range of action… and Turbo Grandma is no exception.

Okarun is still cursed and not exactly in Olympic shape. Momo, on the other hand, takes command and pulls out that mix of recklessness, heart and protagonist instinct that makes her increasingly central.

Running: Pure Adrenaline and Controlled Dementia

The racing sequence is one of the most intense and funniest seen so far. It is shot like an action movie chase, but with the grotesque and surreal taste that only DanDaDan can handle. As they run away, Turbo Grandma not only catches up with them, but also surpasses them, laughing with that face of his that seems to have come out of a 90's nightmare. A moment between the ridiculous and the terrifying.

Momo realizes that the only way to get out of this alive is drag her out of the tunnel, where his power should weaken. And then off we go, running, catching trains on the fly, making absurd leaps and shouting that mixes panic and determination.

Plot Twist: Giant Crab Surprise

As if that wasn't enough, halfway through the episode, a a secondary spirit, crab-shaped (because yes, of course), which complicates things. This is the moment when Okarun, despite the curse, regains control for a few seconds and manages to block it long enough for Momo to continue running.

It's a small scene, but significant: Okarun begins to emerge from the role of "boy to be saved", and shows that when needed, it's there.

The ending: a train, a punch and a liberation

The climax comes on the roof of a train. Literally. With Turbo Grandma now off her game, Momo manages to land the decisive blow. And it's not just a punch: it's the sum of all the emotions, the fatigue, the fear and the anger that have accumulated since it all began.

Grandma (finally) falls to the ground. Okarun is freed from the curse. And we, the spectators, are left there with a smile halfway between shock and satisfaction.

Chaos orchestrated to perfection

“Turbo Grandma on the carpet” is a controlled explosion, an episode that never slows down and manages to blend action and humor in an intelligent way. But above all, he manages to give his characters moments of growth even in the midst of total madness.

What now? With Turbo out of the picture, the floodgates are open for even stranger threats. But one thing is for sure: If Momo and Okarun can take on a possessed old woman who runs like a speedster, then nothing is truly impossible.

And no, we won't forget it so easily.

Review - DanDaDan Episode 4: “Turbo Grandma Down”

When speed meets home exorcism and pure madness wins

In the fourth episode of DanDaDan, the clash with Turbo Grandma finally reaches its climax. After three episodes in which we got used to flying spirits, embarrassing possessions and wild races, it was the right time to take a breather... and instead, no. "Turbo Grandma down" relaunches everything with a literally deadly race, mixing horror, comedy and action with an ease that has now become the hallmark of the series.

Strengths

📌 Overwhelming rhythm

The episode doesn't let you breathe. It opens in a rush - and stays in a rush until the last second. But it's not confusion for its own sake: it's a perfectly orchestrated chaos, where each scene has its own meaning and time. The direction makes good use of the changes in environment, moving from the claustrophobic tunnel to the roof of the train with a fluidity that amplifies the adrenaline.

📌 Momo in protagonist mode

If there was still any need for confirmation, Momo takes the stage with a disconcerting naturalness. She is the one who leads the action, who makes quick decisions, who keeps control even when all seems lost. She is impulsive, of course, but authentically determined, and every action he takes comes from a real emotional connection with Okarun.

📌 Comedy and tension well balanced

The episode is an explosive mix of tension and absurdity. Turbo Grandma is still one of the most bizarre and disturbing antagonists in the anime, but she is never completely ridiculed: remains a real threat, and it is precisely this balance that makes the tone of the episode unique. We laugh, but with an eye on the next twist.

📌 Satisfactory arch closure

The resolution of the fight is clear and satisfying. The fact that Okarun is finally freed from the curse is handled with elegance and timing, without dragging out too much. The sense of relief that comes at the end is deserved. It was needed.

Weaknesses

⚠️ The crab… why?

The sudden appearance of the spirit crab is a bit of a gratuitous moment. Visually it's crazy and fun, but narratively it doesn't add much. It seems like it's just there to add another obstacle, but it risks breaking the emotional climax between Momo, Okarun, and Turbo Grandma.

⚠️ Okarun still too passive

Ok, he's cursed. Ok, he's in trouble. But in this episode Okarun remains almost just a pawn to be protected. It would have been interesting to give him at least a moment of redemption, even a small one, to show his willingness to fight back.

⚠️ Repetitiveness in the structure

Run, escape, fight, final blow. It works, but it's the third episode in a row that follows this pattern. Luckily the intensity is high and the characters keep everything together, but a change of dynamics in the next episodes will be necessary to maintain the surprise effect.

🎯 Conclusion

“Turbo Grandma on the Floor” is a very high energy episode, which closes with strength and imagination one of the first arcs of the series. It's an episode that doesn't ask for permission: it throws you into a crazy race and doesn't stop until it leaves you exhausted and with a smile.

DanDaDan continues to confirm itself as one of the most unpredictable and fresh series of the current panorama. It is noisy, colorful, lopsided... but alive. And in this episode, like never before, you can feel your heart beating under the chaos.

🔸 Rating: 8,5 / 10
Adrenaline-filled, creative and well-constructed. Some gratuitous elements and an Okarun still on stand-by, but Momo's overwhelming energy and the conclusion of the arc with Turbo Grandma give an episode to remember.
Turbo Grandma is gone. The best part? It's only the beginning.
