 The cartoon David gnome, my friend (The World of David the Gnome) made by Unieboek brb internacional in 1985 was taken from children's books written by Rien Poortvliet and Wil Huygen: "Gnomes" and "The secrets of the gnomes" . The series is divided into 26 episodes and in Italy it was broadcast for the first time on Italia 1 in 1986.
The main character is David a gnome characterized by the classic red pointed hat, a blue jacket and a thick beard, which makes us guess his venerable age of over 200 years. David lives in a small shelter made from the roots of a tree and inside his little house he has everything he needs. David lives with his wife Lisa, with whom he is very much in love and together they face various adventures for the protection of the forest and its animals. On the back of his friend the fox Swift, David is always ready to rush to help to cure any animal in distress, as he is a doctor who knows all the secrets of plants and flowers. Unfortunately, to hinder him in his work there are the evil Trolls, of which David recognizes the presence several meters away, due to their unmistakable stench. However, the main enemy of David and his friends is undoubtedly man, who even if he does not interact with gnomes, stands out in his passage because he pollutes the environment and puts life in the woods in serious difficulty. During the various episodes, David will explain to the public all the uses and customs of his people, which were then taken by the authors Rien Poortvliet and Wil Huygen, taking into account all the ancient northern European legends. The other Gnome cartoons are "Traveling with Benjamin" and "Into the Wonderful World of Gnomes".
