Dragon Ball Z: The Battle of the Gods
Dragon Ball Z - the battle of the gods the anime movie about Goku's encounter with the god of destruction Bills. The film is inspired by the Dragon Ball Z anime and can be placed chronologically in the ten years following the defeat of Majin Buu. The direction is by Masahiro Hosoda, the production is by Toei Animation. Released in Japanese theaters in March of last year, the movie, which lasts 1:25, is distributed on the big screen by 20th Century Fox and will arrive in Italy in the days
1 and 2 February 2014, to the delight of all fans of the animated series.
The film begins with Goku training on King Kaioh's planet, but meanwhile, on another planet in the shape of an inverted pyramid with a tree growing on its base, the mighty god of destruction is awakened by his right arm Whis. Bills slept for 39 years. Upon awakening he tells Whis that he had the premonition of a clash with a super Saiyan god, so he decides to go in search of him. Once on King Kaioh's planet he asks to speak with Goku, the one who defeated Freeza. King Kaioh is worried, he knows that the boy has a great desire to confront the god, obviously he cannot imagine his real power. The two meet and when Bills asks Goku about the super Saiyan god, the boy replies that he has never heard of such a thing.
Goku asks Bills to demonstrate his much vaunted strength. The fight lasts a few moments. Goku is knocked down after only two hits by the mighty god. The strength of this being, from the appearance of an Egyptian cat, is truly incredible. Meanwhile, the poor planet of King Kaio is paying the price. Bills decides to go to earth to find Vegeta and ask him if he can give him information about the supersaiyan god. King Kaioh, alarmed, gets in touch with the fighter, to warn him of the arrival of the god of destruction and to try to keep the waters calm and not irritate him. Bulma's 38th birthday party is taking place on earth, food and alcohol abound. When Bills arrives on earth, Bulma, slightly sparkles, mistakes him for a friend of her husband and invites him to the party. Bills and Whis do not get begged, they accept and eat everything.
Meanwhile Vegeta recalls his first meeting with Bills, when the god humiliated his father the king, so he knows his enormous power. He therefore tries to keep him calm, complying with his every request and, when he too is asked about the supersaiyan god, he replies that he knows nothing about it. The party seems to be going well, despite a clumsy attempt to steal the Dragon Balls. But when Bills, teased by Whis, wants to taste the pudding, he finds a greedy Majin Buu who finishes all the portions. The god goes on a rampage and decides to destroy the earth. Vegeta is desperate, he tries to reason with the god who does not want to hear reasons. Bulma then intervenes, scolding the god for ruining the party, but the creature with astounding strength slaps her.
Vegeta reacts by finding in himself a strength that, according to the guests, surpasses that of Goku at that moment. Even the little ones Goten and Trunks team up to fight the god who spanks them in response. Then Goku arrives who takes his time and asks the dragon Shenron for information on the supersaiyan god. The dragon says that it is not a living being, but that it is obtained by combining the energy of 5 pure-hearted supersaiyans. Goku, Vegeta, Gohan, Goten and Trunks then try to unite to give life to the supersaiyan god, but it doesn't seem to work, to everyone's bewilderment. Thinking back to the dragon's words, however, they realize that 5 of them plus one are needed for the formation of the supersaiyan god. They then think of Vegeta's brother, who is on a distant planet. All seems lost when Videl announces her pregnancy. They then try to create the supersaiyan god by including her in the circle.
This time the union works, from the six an incredible amount of energy is released which is absorbed by Goku. The boy transforms into the supersaiyan god, taking on a pink-fuchsia aura, as well as the color of his hair and eyes. The fight begins. The two fight in the sky over the city, then the scenario changes, first in a wood, then in the bowels of the earth. Huge power shots and special moves are not spared, but Goku suddenly returns first a normal supersaiyan, then simply Goku, but does not lose his power. In fact, it seems to have absorbed the energy of the divine world. However, Bills' power is unmatched. After a long fight and an explanatory dialogue between the two, Bills wins. "I just wanted you to tell me I'm giving up," he tells the boy.
Goku admits he has less power than the god, but the latter comforts him by asserting that it is the second most powerful being he has ever met. Also we are in the 7th universe, there are 12, and for each universe there is certainly a powerful god.
Bills then reveals the true identity of his right arm Whis who is actually his mentor and instructor, therefore much more powerful than him, despite the fact that his appearance indicates the opposite. At the end of the confrontation Bills says he can't help but destroy the earth.
The film has an unexpected and very original happy ending. The whole movie presents a linear plot, easy to follow even for those who have never seen the episodes of the anime or read the manga. Ironic jokes and sketches between the characters make the atmosphere light, even during the duel. The fighting scenes grab attention and are followed with interest. Excellent graphics, as indeed is that of the animated series. Some small inconsistencies with the story aired on TV, but for those who love the series, it will be fun to grasp these nuances too.
