Shout! Factory secures worldwide rights to "FernGully - The Adventures of Zak and Crysta"

Leading company in cross-platform media Shout! Factory and Machine Media Advisors have announced a new entertainment distribution agreement for the beloved animated film FernGully - The Adventures of Zak and Crysta (Fern Gully: The Last Rainforest) in view of its 30th anniversary. The announcement was made today by Melissa Boag, Senior Vice President of Family Entertainment at Shout, and Matt Feige, Jon Sheinberg and Susie Sheinberg, Founding Partners of Machine Media Advisors.

The multi-year agreement provides for Shout! Factory with the worldwide rights to this fascinating and timeless animated film, which includes digital, video on demand, broadcast, cinema and home entertainment. I scream! Factory is planning a strategic launch of the film across all major entertainment platforms in time for the film's 30th anniversary celebration in 2022.

Leveraging unprecedented access to archival content and collaboration with director Bill Kroyer, new bonus content, collectible packs and special releases are being developed.

FernGully - The Adventures of Zak and Crysta (Fern Gully: The Last Rainforest) features an all-star voice cast, including Tim Curry, Samantha Mathis, Christian Slater, Jonathan Ward, Robin Williams and Grace Zabreiskie. Directed by Bill Kroyer, with a screenplay by Jim Cox and the soundtrack by two-time Academy Award nominee Alan Silvestri, the film is based on Diana Young's “FernGully” stories. The 2D animated film was produced by Kroyer Films, Youngheart Productions and FAI Films in Australia.

This exclusive deal was negotiated by Jon Sheinberg and Matt Feige of SFO Entertainment and Jordan Fields of Shout, Vice President of Acquisitions.

Synopsis: Crysta (Samantha Mathis) is a fairy who lives in FernGully, a rainforest in Australia, and has never seen a human before. In fact, she is told they are extinct. But when a lumber company approaches the rainforest, it sees that they exist and even accidentally shrinks one: a boy named Zak (Jonathan Ward). Now of his size, Zak sees the damage the company is doing and helps Crysta stop not only them, but an evil entity named Hexxus (Tim Curry), which feeds on pollution.
