Frank and Drake is an intriguing "double story" inspired by Frankenstein and Dracula

While download stores are filled with certain "types" of games competing for the same audience, there are also independent studios that produce quite unique experiences. Frank and Drake, from Spanish studio Appnormals Team, could be one to watch when it arrives on Switch in the spring of 2022.

Appnormals Team previously developed by  STAY on Switch, itself a fascinating piece of storytelling that we really liked in our review. Frank and Drake certainly have eye-catching images, which use a rotoscoping technique where the live action video is then painted on a frame by frame basis. In terms of plot, it draws inspiration from Frankenstein and Dracula, as two roommates communicate exclusively via notes and other means. One only works at night, another during the day, and the game promises multiple mysteries, various characters to encounter, assorted puzzles, and multiple endings.

Frank and Drake will be structured in 6 days and 6 nights, and the 7th day will be only day or night according to the user's choices and the chosen path. Days will not always be consecutive, intermediate time intervals will occur. It begins with Frank on the exact day that marks a year as caretaker of the building he lives in and struggles to keep up with his job duties while enduring autobiographical and episodic amnesia. That same morning he receives a letter from the building's owner, Ham, informing him of the arrival of a new roommate who has requested the windowless room and works night shifts. That detail combined with Frank's low stamina (which forces him into daytime life) means they are never seen. So they end up initiating a curious communication system through sticky notes, the spinal cord of branching decision. The trigger that breaks the lives of both protagonists comes in the form of a strange device sent anonymously ...
