HBO Max announces “Velma” premiere for January
HBO Max subscribers who sadly said goodbye to many of their favorite animated series this year received a small olive branch from the streamer today when the platform revealed a launch date for its spinoff of Scooby-Doo for adults, Velma . The show is a rare animated gem among the month's premiere highlights.
Output The 12 January , Velma is “an animated comedy series for adults that tells the origin story of Velma Dinkley ( Mindy Kaling ), the unknown and underrated mastermind of the Scooby-Doo Mystery Inc. gang". This original and entertaining interpretation unmasks the complex and colorful past of one of America's most beloved mystery solvers.'
Produced by Warner Bros. Animation, the 10-episode show also stars Glenn Howerton as Fred, Sam richardson as Norville (Shaggy) and Constance Wu as Daphne. Other cast members include Jane Lynch, Wanda Sykes, Russell Peters, Melissa Fumero, Stephen Root, Gary Cole, Ken Leung, Cherry Jones, Frank Welker, "Weird Al" Yankovic, Fortune Feimster, Yvonne Orji, Sarayu Blue, Nicole Byer, Ming-Na Wen, Shay Mitchell, Debby Ryan, Kulap Vilaysak and Karl-Anthony Towns.
Charlie Grandy ( The Office , The Mindy Project ) is the showrunner/executive producer along with Kaling, Howard Klein and Sam Register.
The January lineup also features the premiere of the action-adventure game adaptation The Last of Us , with Pedro Pascal ( The Mandalorian ) and Bella Ramsey ( Game of Thrones ), which takes place 20 years after the destruction of modern civilization. Joel, a hardened survivor, is hired to smuggle 14-year-old Ellie out of an oppressive quarantine zone. What starts as a small job soon becomes a brutal and harrowing journey as both must traverse the United States and depend on each other for survival. Premier January 15th.
