The Amazing Maurice (The Amazing Maurice) the animated film from the book by Terry Pratchett

The Amazing Maurice (The Amazing Maurice), is a CGI animated film co-produced by Sky (UK), Ulysses Filmproduktion (Germany) and Cantilever Media (Ireland), inspired by the 2001 book by Terry Pratchett The Amazing Maurice and his Educated Rodents (2001), the first title in his Discworld series written for children. The film was one of the projects selected at this year's Cartoon Movie co-production forum.

"The Amazing Maurice (The Amazing Maurice) it's a fantastic story from a legendary author and I couldn't think of a better story to bring to life as an animated film for the whole family, ”said Sarah Wright, Director of Sky Cinema and Acquisitions for Sky UK and Ireland. “I am thrilled to be working with Ulysses Filmproduktion and Cantilever Media to bring this new exclusive film to Sky Cinema audiences in 2022”.

Emely Christians, producer and CEO of Ulysses Filmproduktion, added: “When I read The Amazing Maurice (The Amazing Maurice), I knew we had to turn this fantastic novel into a movie. The art and animation departments are working hard to recreate Terry Pratchett's unique vision and I can't wait to see it on screen! "

Hugh Laurie (5 Avenue) to Emilia Clarke (Game of Thrones) direct the cast as the anti-hero cat Maurice and Malicia, respectively the bookish daughter of the mayor. Further, David thewlis (Wonder Woman) is on board as Boss Man, Himesh Patel (IERI (Yesterday)) like Keith, Gemma Arterton (The king's man) such as peaches and Hugh Bonneville (Downton Abbey) as the mayor.

“I'm a huge fan of Sir Terry Pratchett, so I wouldn't have embarked on this project if I hadn't felt we were bringing the film to life in a way that honors the book and will please its many fans around the world,” said Andrew. Baker, producer and CEO of Cantilever Media. "We have an exceptional cast and great teams in the Sheffield and Hamburg studios working to make this film special."

The film tells the adventures of Maurice, a sly, ginger-colored cat who always tries to scam someone to make money. One day Maurice meets a boy who plays a pipe and also makes friends with his army of strangely brilliant and educated talking mice. Maurice can no longer think of them as "lunch". When Maurice and the rodents reach the affected town of Bad Blintz, they encounter a bookworm, Malicia. Their little scam soon goes down the drain because something very bad awaits them in the cellars ...

Cantilever producer Robert Chandler remarked, “The trick with The prodigious Maurice it is getting the right balance. Terry Pratchett is a brilliant author who wasn't afraid to explore dark places. This is the tone of our film “.

The prodigious Maurice, an original Sky film, is co-produced by Sky, Ulysses Filmproduktion and Cantilever Media, with the animation studios Studio Rakete (Hamburg) and Red Star Animation (Sheffield). The film has the full backing of Terry Pratchett's estate and is produced in association with Narrativia. Producers are Julia Stuart (Sky), Emely Christians (Ulysses), Andrew Baker and Robert Chandler (Cantilever Media) and Rob Wilkins (Narrativia). The film is directed by Toby Genkel, the co-director is Florian Westermann.

"Bringing Maurice's story to life has been such a joy for Terry and I am delighted that the Sky, Ulysses Filmproduktion and Cantilever Media teams are honoring his vision with such reverence and respect," said Rob Wilkins, producer and CEO of Narrativia.
