INTERSTELLA 5555 - The 5tory of the 5ecret 5tar 5ystem

The animated film (or if you prefer, animated musical) Interstella 5555 was presented in the Quinzaine de Realisateurs of the 2003 Cannes Film Festival. The film is a kind of experimentation as it is a real musical, where they are absent. the dialogues, is based exclusively on the splendid images drawn by the great Leiji Matsumoto, author of Captain Harlock , Galaxy Express 999 , Star Blazers and on the house music of the French group Daft Punk. The mix between hard sounds, techno-pop and soft images is certainly successful and intriguing, certainly to the liking of today's thirties, grown up with Japanese science fiction cartoons of the late 70s, early 80s (Captain Harlock in the lead) . The collaboration between the French group and the author of Japanese cartoons had already begun for the creation of the video clip "Discovery", after which it was seriously thought of making something on a larger scale, lasting about an hour, and that's how "Interstella 5555" was born. The film features Daft Punk songs: "One More Time," "Digital Love", "Aerodynamic and" Harder Better Faster Stronger. "The story of Interstella 5555 stars four boys from another galaxy, who have become famous musicians with their rebellious rock group, idolized by all young people. However, they are kidnapped by an unscrupulous record manager, who, using a machine capable of controlling their minds, wants to transform them into a mild pop band, so to be enriched behind them. The four boys, however, will manage to foil this shady project and music, the universal language, will triumph. Matsumoto's delicate and poetic images, made up of fascinating women drawn with a few simple elegant features, like the protagonist Stella, a very beautiful blonde girl, evoke that ancient mysterious charm of the characters we loved in the cartoons of Capitan harlock. For all lovers of Japanese cartoons and for those who love the new trends in rock music, this is a film that is definitely worth seeing. Even if the sensations you will have will be completely subjective, the film should be appreciated for the courageous attempt to mix western rock music with the art of the oriental image, in our opinion it was very successful. This film could open up new expressive avenues in the field of music and animation, what do you think?
