The series broadcast on Italia 1 in 1987, consists of 65 episodes, each lasting 22 minutes and were intended to launch fashionable dolls on the market, able to compete with the famous Mattel Barbie.

Jem

The story begins with Emmet Benton, a record company who owns Starlight Music and who, together with his wife, the talented singer Jacqui, takes care of a home for orphaned girls called Starlight House. Emmet and Jacqui also have two daughters: Jerrica and Kimber both, very cute and smart. Unfortunately Jacqui dies and her husband, also an IT expert, decides to build a computer that recalls the figure of Jacqui, capable of projecting three-dimensional and realistic images, to have the illusion that she is still alive. The computer will be called Synergy and will serve as a valuable guide for Jerrica and Kimber. When Emmet sees her departure time approaching, she gives her daughter Jerrica some star-shaped earrings, along with guitars and typical rock band clothes. After Emmet's death, his perfidious ex-partner Eric Raymond wants to take over Starlight Music and launches the Misfits, a girls' rock band made up of the arrogant Pizzaz, Roxy and Stormer, on the record market.

Jem and the Holograms

In order to assert their rights, Jerrica and Kimber decide to form the musical group of Holograms, which will also be joined by Aja (on guitar) and Shana (on drums), two girls from the orphanage and after some time also the drummer Raya. Everything would seem to be born with the best of intentions, if it were not for one particular: Jerrica cannot sing and has not in the least inherited her mother's musical talent, even if she looks like her physically. At this point the Synergy computer intervenes, which thanks to the connection with Jerrica's earrings, projects a hologram that transforms her into Jem, a very good virtual rock cantate. Thanks to the success of Jem and the Holograms, the Misfits and Mr. Raymond will have a hard time boasting their ownership rights to Starlight Music and every episode of the series will see the latter resort to all sorts of deceptions to put a wrench. wheels to Jerrica and Kimber. For Jerrica, the situation becomes complicated since she discovers that Rio, her boyfriend has fallen in love with her alter ego Jem, (whose true identity she hides) and this will give rise to a series of misunderstandings, which will lead her to fall in love. by Riot, another guy who sings in the Stinger rock band. Later, after a series of vicissitudes, Rio will retrace his steps and discover that he only loves Jerrica.
