Lazer Patrol - The 1986 animated series

Lazer Patrol also known as Lazer Tag Academy is a 1986 animated series inspired by the game Lazer Tag of Worlds of Wonder, made by Ruby-Spears Productions.

The original episodes aired on the American television channel NBC from 13 September to 6 December 1986. The reruns lasted until 22 August 1987.

It was later shown in reruns with the new Lazer Patrol title on the Sci Fi Channel as part of Sci Fi Cartoon Quest.

History

Jamie Jaren, the Lazer Tag champion of 3010, travels back in time to the year 1987. The aim is to help her ancestors, teenagers Tom and Beth and little Nicky. Jamie protects the children from Draxon Drear, a seasoned criminal from the year 2061, who was unknowingly brought back to life by the suspended animation.

The trouble was caused by Jamie's teacher, Professor Olanga, after he ended up in that state following a hijacking of a spaceship.

Draxon's spaceship crashed in the Atlantic Ocean and remained in suspended animation until it was revived.

Draxon traveled back in time to destroy Beth. He finds it dangerous, because he would eventually create the Starlyte pistol and Starsensor (two Lazer Tag products in real life) worn by Jamie.

These machines allowed Jamie to compete in the Lazer Tag tournaments of his time. A Starlyte is capable of producing effects that allow the wielder to manipulate matter and energy on a molecular scale. With the help of the Starsensor, travel through time.

Draxon leads a group of genetically modified humans called the Skuggs. They were originally created to serve humanity before coming under Draxon's slavery. One of the Skuggs accidentally detonates the animation gas suspended on Draxon's spaceship, which awakens Draxon several centuries in the past.

Beth and Tom's parents Andrew and Genna Jaren were mostly ignorant of battles. With Draxon Drear and the Skuggs and they believed Jamie was a foreign student. Additionally, Tom and Beth's schoolmate Charles Ferguson is suspicious of Jamie and repeatedly tries to uncover his secret.
