Lupine III - The Legend of Babylon's Gold - The 1985 anime film

Lupine III - The Legend of Babylon's Gold (Japanese original title: ル パ ン 三世 バ ビ ロ ン の 黄金 伝 説 Rupan Sansei - Babiron no ōgon densetsu) is a 1985 Japanese animated (anime) film co-directed by Seijun Suzuki and Shigetsugu Yoshida. It is the third feature film based on the popular manga comic character Lupine III by author Monkey Punch.
It was broadcast for the first time in Italy, divided into two parts, on Rete 4, on 1st and 2nd January 1987, in a censored version.
It was released on VHS subtitled and LaserDisc in North America by AnimEigo in 1994 under the name “Rupan III”, due to copyright issues with Maurice Leblanc's Arsène Lupine. In 2018, Discotek Media released it on DVD and Blu-ray under its original name with an English dub.
History
Arsène Lupine III searches for a gigantic hidden treasure originating from ancient Babylon, with the help of his usual team, a set of stone tablets and a drunken old woman named Rosetta. Complicating matters is Inspector Koichi Zenigata, who was forced to judge the "Miss ICPO Beauty Contest" and now has to bring along a group of candidates, all eager to prove themselves as agents.

Production
This film is the only Lupine film in which he wears the pink jacket from the third TV series. AnimEigo released the film with English subtitles and Japanese dialogue under the title "Rupan III: Legend of the Gold of Babylon" on VHS and LaserDisc in North America in 1995. In 2005, Discotek Media acquired it for release in DVD, [3] however, was later canceled due to the decline of the anime industry in North America. In August 2017, Discotek announced that it would release The Legend of Babylon's Gold on DVD and Blu-ray. It has a new English dub with the same cast as Pioneer Entertainment's dub of Lupin's second anime. [1] It was later announced that a Blu-ray would be released on November 27, 2018 while the DVD version was released on December 18, 2018.
