A new Attack
Look look on the field there is the same player, Mila is her name and she is back for you ... Well yes, 25 years have passed since the first time on network 4 appeared the couple par excellence of the panorama animated volleyball most loved by young and old. The serious Mila and Shiro two hearts in volleyball (58 episodes of 24 minutes each) has undoubtedly characterized the collective imagination of all generations born between the 80s and 90s; now with the airing of the second series: Mila and Shiro the dream continues (American original title: New Attacker you) we try not only to awaken the dormant passion of those generations, but also to arouse the interest of today's young spectators, unaware of how deep and funny the past cartoons were and by now accustomed to passively watching series that offer a lot of entertainment and many special effects, but with plots that are often not up to par and with emotional contents clearly inferior to the past.

At the head of the project Mila and Shiro the dream continues we find the Cino-Japanese production company Knack Productions, already author of the first series that met with resounding success with audiences all over the world. Author of the subject is Tetskyu Suzukawa, while at the head of the music sector there is Shiro Sagisu (famous for having contributed in the past to some of the most beautiful soundtracks of Bleach, Neon Genesis Evangelion and The mystery of the blue stone). As for the Italian version of the cartoon, the evergreen Cristina D'Avena could not miss as interpreter of the opening and closing theme. For obvious reasons the Italian voice actors of the second series have been changed compared to those who gave the voice to the protagonists in the first, the loyal audience will therefore have to resign themselves to the new vocal identity of the characters.

Mila and Shiro the dream continues is a project born in 2008, just in conjunction with the Olympic Games in Beijing. The series, which will be broadcast in Italy starting from 12 September 2011 from Monday to Friday at 17.20 pm on Italia 1, will feature 52 episodes of about 25 minutes each and compared to the first series it seems that the cartoon does not present any censored scenes. The titles of the first 5 episodes that will be released in Italy have already been announced: 1) A new beginning, 2) The auditions, 3) The team gets bigger, 4) Team game, 5) The new candidate. Initially the first Italian viewing was scheduled for September 5, but the usual problems inherent in the organization of the television schedule have postponed everything by a week, but on the other hand when you wait for 25 years, a week is a time of waiting much more than acceptable.

The story of Mila and Shiro the dream continues
Seoul Olympics 1988, the debut match of the Japanese national volleyball team against Czechoslovakia, the protagonist Mila Azuki serves for the start of the match: we had left each other like that in the first series, finally seeing realized the national dream of the young spiker to make her debut at the Olympic games with the Japan shirt. No one is fooled, the new series will not restart from that famous game! The plot of Mila and Shiro the dream continues will not let us discover the result of that match nor will it inform us of the conclusion of those distant Olympic Games, the new story will be set in 2008 and the Olympics in question will be those of Beijing 2008. Some of you will probably feel a big disappointment for this reason, but the choice of the authors was to create a story clearly different from the previous one, while keeping the most loved protagonists, even if in completely different roles. Speaking of protagonists, Mila will not be the undisputed star of the cartoon, while the role and importance of Shiro will be significantly higher than the previous series. Mila's beloved volleyball player will in fact be the coach of a professional team of the Chinese league: the Dragon Ladies. This new team has been one of the most successful in the Chinese national scene, but after 6 consecutive championships it has to surrender to relegation. Behind the Dragon Ladies crisis there is the company that sponsors them, but which due to an economic crisis is forced to cut some management costs, thus reducing the liquidity made available to the team.

The robe of the savior of the homeland will be worn by Shiro, who has made himself available for the post of new Dragon Ladies coach: he will have the task of rebuilding the team with the few funds available and crowning a great dream, winning the next Olympics. After learning of the facts, some girls among the Dragon Ladies voluntarily decide to leave the team, thus leaving Shiro to grapple, as well as with corporate and economic problems, even with the problems of the locker room. So what happened to Mila? Meanwhile, keep in mind that all the old characters are 20 years older, so Mila is 35 and 35 is not exactly an ideal age to play volleyball at great levels, especially for the role of spiker. Having said that, our beloved Mila Azuki will initially help Shiro in coaching the girls (she will become a sort of second manager), but will later try to join the team as a starter. In any case, if you are again disappointed by this prologue, know that surely, with the passing of the episodes, the historic blue-haired receiver Nami Hayase and Mila's friend-rival, the stand-up driver Kaori Takigawa will also appear. As mentioned before, the protagonist of the series will not be Mila, but a green-haired girl who is very skilled in martial arts (you can already see her protagonist of the first episode), this will become a sort of rival for Mila who will want to return to play as the owner at all costs. . However, there will be numerous flashbacks on the past life of the protagonists, on the other hand, to make viewers re-affectionate to Mila and company, some scenes will be mounted that will be able to partially reconstruct (covering a 20-year time gap is not a trivial matter) life lived by the old protagonists, absolutely oblivious to you.

Will it be a success?
The new series in Asia has not been very successful, on the other hand not all thirty-year-olds today (even if very faithful to the time) have the material possibility to watch the cartoon live and the new audience is difficult to involve in a series with strong sporty colors. The hope of the Mediaset group is therefore that of having chosen a right time slot for the broadcast.

Artistically speaking, the new series has taken a decisive step forward as regards the animations (qualitatively superior) and the dialogues (deeper and updated to modern themes). However, we cannot say the same about the plot, but we hope to be proven wrong once we have seen all the episodes of the series.

When it comes to the sequel to a cult cartoon, it's normal to be skeptical, how can you improve something that was perfect for the time? After a long wait, Knack Productions tries to re-celebrate the myth of Mila and Shiro. Seeing is believing.
