Mister No. it was conceived and written by the great Guido Nolitta (in art Sergio Bonelli), already author of the very successful character of Zagar, in 1975 and designed by Gallienus Ferri, as regards the first issue and the covers of the first albums, but much of the graphic work and the subsequent characterization of the character, is due to Roberto Diso, very good in anatomical design and construction of Amazonian scenarios.

Mister No. he is the pilot of a piper, a touring plane and his job is to transport passengers inside the intricate Amazon rainforest of Brazil, where no other means of access is possible. This is where most of his adventures begin. Mister No is none other than the nickname of Jerry Drake, an American veteran of the Second World War, who because of his free spirit and to abandon the sad memories of his past, decided to live in Manaus in an attempt to avoid trouble and live a quiet life, among beautiful girls, samba music, smoking and alcohol. But trouble seems to jump on him, also due to the fact that his nickname Mister No was not given to him by chance. Mister No is a rebel, a protester par excellence, he says "no" to war, "no" to injustices, "no" to iron and dull discipline, "no" to the bullying of the strongest against the weak and it is for this reason that most of the time he gets involved both for his sense of justice and for his great generosity. Mister No kisses PatriciaHe spends most of the evenings at the bar in the company of his friends or sleeping after a big drink and in fact one of his many vices is also laziness and this makes us understand that he is not an adventurer by vocation, but often and willingly by compulsion. . When he is cheerful and easy-going he walks through the streets of Manaus humming "When the Saints Go Marchin 'in"and from this we can guess that his adventures are set at the end of the 50s. Most of his adventures have the Amazon forest as their background, drawn with meticulousness and great naturalistic documentation, where we find the various tribes of Indians who live in the forest in a still wild state, that is, without the contamination of the white man. Mister No He is a friend of the Indians, even if in several adventures he fought against the most hostile and bloody tribes, and he even married a young India, living for a certain period with the Yanoama.Mister No's Piper But even at the end of the 50s, there were the first attempts, often cynical and cruel, to exploit the immense resources of the forest by "civilized" men who then tried to cut down trees to create roads or to obtain timber, to to seek gold from rivers or for other purposes all motivated by greed for money. Mister No he also fights against those unscrupulous men who trample the dignity of the Indians, for the sole purpose of enriching themselves. Thanks to his ramshackle Piper, which he manages to fly with impressive skill, Mister No can travel to different locations in Brazil, which will then become the scene of his many adventures and more. In fact, piloting more powerful planes, the adventures of Mister No they have also been set in the other countries of South America, in the United States (as regards its past), in Japan, Africa and even in Italy.
Unlike other comic heroes, Mister No has no recurring enemies, that is the classic enemy number one, but he meets several and sometimes even very hard and ruthless ones. Often the enemies can be his own customers, that is the tourists who go into the Amazon rainforest for anything but noble purposes: killers, speculators, slave traffickers, gold diggers, explorers and so on and so forth. put some. At other times his enemies or rather the people with whom he must clash, are rebels, who explode in a violent and senseless way against the abuses and injustices they have had to suffer, like the Indians who fight to defend their rights, the peasants who fight against the oppressions of landowners. In these cases Mister No is able to establish a dialogue with these people, to understand their motivations and sometimes even to make them understand that the use of violence only serves to make things worse. His New York enemies deserve a separate chapter, the ones he had during his past in the United States, one among them Hiden, an unscrupulous CIA agent.They-esse On the other hand Mister No also has many friends like Esse-Esse alias Otto Kruger, a German veteran from World War II who, contrary to his nickname, was never enlisted in Hitler's SS, but who actually fought and rebelled against after seeing the atrocities of the concentration camps. He too, like Mister No, chose to live in Manaus to have some peace of mind. He is a tough guy and is very skilled in the use of the knife. Then there are friends from the bar like Paul Adolphus who runs the place where Mister No makes extensive use of alcohol, with cacha a in mind, a very cheap Brazilian liqueur. We also remember the airport mechanics who are given the task of guarding the piper, the old friends ex-comrades in war, who sometimes reappear in his adventures, but we especially remember the women who supported Mister No, with which have always been born of flirts. We find adventurous girls of the caliber of Patricia Rowland , an American archaeologist, always on the hunt for ancient Incas ruins. Miranda Cordeiro, daughter of a Sert o landowner, Madalena, Irene and Mariathe three "garotas" Madalena, Irene and Maria who manage the "Ipanema" bar in Bel m, the reckless pilotess Debora, Clara and Isabela and many others. All these women are characterized by a very independent and emancipated personality for the women of that period, but it is also true that we are in Brazil. Some points of Mister No's past are still shrouded in mystery, but we know that Jerry Drake was born in New York in the early 20s and that he lived with his father, but not with his mother. When his father goes to fight in the Spanish War in 1937, Jerry will be entrusted to the Aunt Martha, her father's sister, and Uncle Joe, a corrupt cop. Here the little Mister No will be educated by the law of the street, by the mafia boss, Frankie "Messacantata" Nigro and other offenders. The father returns to New York, but ends up in prison for crimes committed in Spain and for this reason, the young Mister No leaves New York to head to California. After various adventures will meet Bat Barlington, the person who will teach him to fly planes. In 1941 Jerry and Bat leave as American volunteer pilots in the "Flying Tigers" to fight in the Far East, alongside the Chinese against the Japanese invaders. In these adventures, Jerry Drake receives the nickname "Mister No" from the cruel Japanese Saiko, due to its indomitable character. He will fight in 1941, against the Japanese in Pearl Harbor, participating in numerous aerial duels against the Japanese. He is then sent into the infantry and later taken prisoner and sentenced to forced labor in Burma, where he manages to escape. After various adventures that see him participate in battles on the islands of the Pacific Ocean, in New Guinea, Mister No will even arrive in Italy, helping together with the American troops to free our country from the Germans.

The adventures of Mister No can be placed in general in the genre of action and adventure comics: espionage, mystery, war, noir, science fiction and even horror (read the beautiful issue entitled "Ananga"). The scenarios that are the background to his stories range from the Amazon rainforest, to the neighborhoods of the Bronx, from the Pacific islands, to the African coasts. Many other fascinating mysteries must be told about Mister No's past, so we invite you not to miss the numbers that will always be well made with breathtaking and suspenseful stories. Reporting some particularly beautiful numbers would be doing wrong to other very interesting stories, however do not miss numbers such as: "The gringo's revenge", "The Guyana man", "Atlantic", "The yellow fury", "The God- jaguar "," Mister No goes to war "," Yanoama "," New York nights "," Red wind "and ... I could name many others. Among the designers, in addition to the legendary Gallieno ferri and Roberto Diso, we also remember the excellent Fabio Civitelli, Franco Donatelli, Bignotti, Bianchini, Rossi, Suarez, Valdambrini, Vitto, Bignamini and many others. While the texts we remember in addition to Guido Nolitta also Mignacco, Castelli, Sclavi, Colombo, Del Freo and others.
