'My Father's Dragon' - Cartoon Saloon's Netflix animated film
To celebrate World Book Day this Saturday, Netflix unveiled the first look and cast of the next animated film My father's dragon (My Father's Dragon), by Cartoon Saloon co-founder and Academy Award-nominated director Nora Twomey (Parvana's Tales - The Breadwinner). Inspired by Ruth Stiles Gannett's award-winning Newbery book, the film is produced by Mockingbird Pictures and Cartoon Saloon (Wolfwalkers, Song of the Sea, The Secret of Kells) five times Oscar nominated.
The film stars Jacob Tremblay (Luca), Gaten Matarazzo (Stranger Things), Golshifteh Farahani (gen: LOCK), Dianne Wiest (Mayor of Kingstown), Rita Moreno (Maya and the three), Chris O'Dowd (The IT Crowd ), Judy Greer (Archer), Alan Cumming (Schmigadoon!), Yara Shahidi (black), Jackie Earle Haley (Preacher), Mary Kay Place (Diane), Leighton Meester (Gossip Girl), Spence Moore II (AP Bio), Adam Brody (The OC), Charlyne Yi (The Mitchells vs. the Machines), Maggie Lincoln, Jack Smith with Whoopi Goldberg and Ian McShane.
“Our Cartoon Saloon actors, animators and artists worked together to make this film, inspired by the fantastic book by Ruth Stiles Gannett,” said Twomey. “We were drawn to the desire to tell a very special story of friendship, adventure and true courage. I fell in love with storytelling as a kid and Netflix excels at celebrating all kinds of stories, through different styles and distinct voices. This has given me the opportunity to look through a beautiful lens and I am thrilled to share what I see with our audiences around the world ”.
Plot: Elmer, struggling to cope with a move to the city with his mother, escapes in search of Wild Island and a young dragon waiting to be saved. Elmer's adventures introduce him to ferocious beasts, a mysterious island and the friendship of a lifetime.
Twomey directs from a screenplay by Meg LeFauve (Oscar nominated for Inside Out), with a screenplay by LeFauve and John Morgan. The film is produced by Bonnie Curtis and Julie Lynn of Mockingbird Pictures and Paul Young of Cartoon Saloon. Executive producers are LeFauve and Morgan, Tomm Moore and Gerry Shirren (Cartoon Saloon), Alan Moloney and Ruth Coady (Parallel Films)
