Netflix reveals ancient alien secrets of "Spriggan"

A new teaser trailer and official images for spring have landed, offering an explosive look at Netflix's next version of the '90s sci-fi manga by writer Hiroishi Takashige and illustrator Ryoji Minagawa. Animated by david Production (Captain Tsubasa, JoJo's Bizarre Adventure) and directed by Hiroshi Kobayashi (Dragon pilot, Kiznaiver), the series describes the adventures of Yu Ominae, a young man who acts as "Spriggan", a special agent of the ARCAM company, an organization founded to seal the relics of an ancient civilization.

A great civilization once existed on this Earth. Possessing scientific knowledge and skills far superior to those of modern man, the relics of this ancient civilization remain hidden in this world even now. While high-speed communications networks cover the globe and the observing eyes of satellites are able to reveal all the secrets, the armies of great nations collide as they try to discover and research these artifacts, which possess unfathomable "power". A member of this ancient civilization engraved a message on a plate: "Protect our heritage from evildoers." By taking this message to heart, an organization aims to seal this ancient civilization forever. The elite secret agents of this organization are known as… Spriggan.

The voice cast includes Chiaki Kobayashi as Yu Ominae, Youhei Azakami as Jean Jacquemonde, Kenji Hamada as director Yamamoto and Mariya Ise as Yoshino Somei.

The original script of the Netflix anime and the composition of the series were led by Hiroshi Seko (Jujutsu Kaisen, Banana Fish). Shuhei Handa (Little Witch Academy) is character designer and animation supervisor. Newly announced creative team members include JNTHED, who will lead production design, CG Director Norihito Ishii, Head of Color Design Osamu Mikasa, Art Director Yuji Kaneko, and Director of Photography Yosuke Motoki.

the shot spring manga was published in Weekly Shonen Sunday by Shogakukan from 1989 to 1996, selling over 10 million copies in total and spawning an anime film in 1998.
