Disney: Pixar's "Soul" beats "Raya to 2021"

With expansion of home shelter blocking orders and coronavirus prevention, Walt Disney Studios is moving the original Pixar Anima from the planned national release of June 19 to November 20. The Thanksgiving holiday window was originally reserved for the Disney Animation fantasy adventure Raya and the last dragon, which was unveiled on March 21, 2021, conveniently between the February launch of the Locksmith Animation debut Ron has gone wrong and Sony's Lin-Manuel Miranda musical live in April.

Directed by Pete Docter (Backwards, Su) to Star Trek: Discovery the writer Kemp Powers, Anima centers on a middle school band teacher (voiced by Jamie Foxx) whose great chance to play at the best jazz club in town is thwarted when a small misstep takes him from the streets of New York to The Great Before - a fantastic venue where new souls take their personality - where it joins a precocious soul (Tina Fey) who does not see the allure of life on Earth.

Raya and the last dragon is the directorial debut of Disney history artists Paul Briggs and Dean Wellins (Great hero 6, Frozen), and is written by Adele Lim (Crazy Rich Asians). Inspired by Asian myths and cultures, the film follows Raya, a lone warrior from the fantasy realm of Kumandra, who joins a team of misfits in her quest to find the Last Dragon, thus bringing light and unity back to their world. Cassie Steele voices Raya and Awkwafina plays Sisu, the last dragon.
