Elton John and Dua Lipa's "Cold Heart" animated music video

Annecy Cristal-winning Blinkink director Raman Djafari in the new video for “Cold Heart” (PNAU Remix) is transporting fans to an animated disco universe - a Britpop music collaboration between Elton John and Dua Lipa. The project combines Djafari's signature 3D and stop-motion aesthetics with 2D winks at Studio Ghibli to create a joyful technicolor fantasy.

Created in the course of isolation due to the pandemic and inspired by the collaboration of two British icons, legendary and new, this music video packs a post-block feeling, to return to a place where we can once again enjoy and hear music together in a new 2021.

Viewers follow the journey of four friends as they move through increasingly colorful galaxies and vibrant nature. Along the way, they make friends with all the spectacular life they find; spreading joy as they continue their journey. They end their journey dancing with Elton and Dua at the best garden party on this side of the Milky Way.

Featuring images of color-saturated nebulae and abundant gardens, the 3D characters are guided into a groovy community venue, led by the Japanese anime-inspired animated avatars of Elton John and Dua Lipa.

The project was directed by Djafari (who also dealt with 3D design / modeling, 3D animation, 2D design, compositing and was one of the video's storyboard artists), produced by Gareth Owen and executive produced by Josef Byrne. Elton and Dua characters were designed by Seo Young.

“Cold Heart” is Djafari's latest project, fresh from his work on the MV for Squid's “Pamphlets” and for the Adult Swim promos “House Of” and “I Want to Be the Ocean”. Known for his otherworldly style, the director has garnered numerous Vimeo Staff Pick awards, Animattikon and La Guarimba Best Music Video Awards and the 2020 Annecy Cristal for Commissioned Film for Lucky Chops' MV Traveler.
