Ranger Rick the defender of nature becomes an animated series
Red Rock Films, the groundbreaking natural history production company known for Emmy-nominated films shown on National Geographic and Disney +, and the National Wildlife Federation, the nation's largest nonprofit conservation education organization, have announced the development of a new children's series that will bring popular magazines and the book character Ranger Rick to life for the first time on TV.
Brenda Wooding, the well-known veteran children's entertainment company is developing and executive producing the series for Red Rock Films. Bix Pix Entertainment, the award-winning animation studio behind the series tumble leaf (Amazon Prime Video) was named producer of the series; Kelli Bixler, owner, founder and executive producer of Bix Pix, is executive producing. Talks are underway with various video and media streaming hubs dedicated to children. Shannon Malone-Debenedictis is also an executive producer.
“There has never been a better time to bring Ranger Rick's legacy to the forefront on TV and further stimulate children's passion for exploring our natural world,” said Wooding. “This series will not only have one of the largest and most trusted conservation organizations to back it [National Wildlife Federation], but it will also have the fresh and imaginative storytelling and animation magic of Bix Pix driving it into the next era. My hope is that the guys connect to the show and realize that they too can make a difference ”.
To continue Ranger Rick's 50+ year story of inspiring kids to become wildlife champions, the series will be remodeled, drawing on the National Wildlife Federation's long history of conservation work. The modern take on the series aims to encourage children to explore their environment through the goal of one conservation issue per season, such as the migration of the monarch butterfly.
Characters include:
- Ranger Rick, the beloved raccoon passionate about the great outdoors and eager to share it with the world
- Scarlett fox, the smart, confident, and social media savvy storage enthusiast
- Boomer the rate, the MacGyver-like innovator who can recycle anything found in the trash or in nature itself
- Tunia the monarch butterfly, whose determination and vision often propels the team into action. The first season focuses on an epic 3.000-mile adventure to help Tunia reach her ancestral family tree.
"For decades, Ranger Rick has inspired millions of children to explore, love and protect nature," said Dawn Rodney, Chief Innovation and Growth Officer of the National Wildlife Federation. "Bringing this iconic character to life on TV will inspire an entire generation in a whole new way, thanks to the passion, creativity and imagination that Red Rock Films and Bix Pix bring to this partnership."
Rick ranger magazine has been a winner of the Parents' Choice Gold Award for the past 10 years. More than two million children between the ages of 0 and 12 are reached through all of Ranger Rick's print and digital outlets. First published as The Adventures of Rick Raccoon by the National Wildlife Federation in 1959, the character evolved into its own magazine, then called Rick Ranger Nature Magazine, in January 1967 and is now in its 54th year.
