"Rango" director Gore Verbinski to buy "Cattywumpus" outside of Netflix
Reportedly, Gore Verbinski, director of the Oscar-winning and BAFTA-winning animated film Range (2011), will seek a new homeworld for his second animation effort. Titled Cattywumpus , the film about felines traveling in space was in the works on Netflix and was first announced as an untitled CG feature project in early 2020.
The news follows this year's staff changes, executive reorders, and Netflix Animation cuts due to the streamer's revenue slowdown. However, the outlet is still working on adding to its catalog of award-winning animated films such as The Mitchells vs. the machines , Over the Moon e Klaus with upcoming titles including Pinocchio by Guillermo Del Toro, Wendell & Wild (Henry Selick), My Father's Dragon (Nora Twomey) Thelma the Unicorn (Jared & Jerusha Hess), Nimona by ND Stevenson (Nick Bruno & Troy Quane), Aardman's Chicken Run: Dawn of the Nugget (Sam Fell) and I, Chihuahuas (Jorge R. Gutiérrez).
With the voice of Johnny Depp, with whom Verbinski has collaborated several times over the years, Range was released by Paramount Pictures and earned $ 246 million at the worldwide box office.
