The authors of the cartoon were inspired by Shotaro Ishinomori's Manga entitled "Ryu no minchi" ("Ryu's road") published by Kodansha, which featured science fiction elements eliminated in the cartoon's creation.
"The missed sacrifice"is the first episode of the series and opens with pleasant scenes of a prehistoric world in turmoil over a volcanic eruption. The Kitty woman begs a shaman to spare her child, who was born with fair skin, therefore is considered cursed by the Gods and will be sacrificed to the monster Tirano (a Tirex). The child is saved by a female monkey who has seen her cub devoured by the Tyrannosaurus. Ryu grows strong and agile and it is not long before he runs into a tribe of his own kind beautiful Rhan. His white skin, different from everyone else's, makes him look like an enemy to fight. His adventures are always marked by fights, escapes and new tracks to follow.

He decides, however, to follow them in order to find Rhan. Ryu is captured and tortured to save the girl. But the shaman is seen. his courage, he decides to subject him to the test of the sacred stones.If he succeeds he will be adopted by the group of men.

Accusing him of being the cause of the drought they tie him up and mistreat him until the usual liberation and the arrival of Tirano, Ryu and Rhan flee, towards new adventures.
Among hostile peoples and dangerous wild animals, Ryu's journey always continues in the company of Rhan who will find his little brother and together the three will proceed in search of Ryu's mother. The three will also meet Kiba whose mission is to kill Tirano; they will make friends with other characters ready to teach them something. Ryu's path is the journey of every man in search of his origins and the meaning of life.
