"Scary Stories for Young Foxes" is animated with Lena Headey, Boat Rocker

Lena Headey and Boat Rocker Studios are teaming up for an animated adaptation of Christian McKay Heidicker's award-winning children's horror novel Scary Stories for Young Foxes (Scary stories for young foxes), which will be co-produced by Headey's Peephole Productions and the Canadian studio's Kids & Family division as part of a first-look deal reached last year.

"During our first meeting at the Boat Rocker I was asked what interested me and we started talking about the horror for children, how there is a space for it, and not to hesitate to put dark and intelligent things out there" , Headey said to Deadline. "Kids aren't fools, they know when we hold back the scary pieces, so I'm so happy to be part of a great team to bring Christian's book to life in a way that feels authentic."

Headey will voice a character in the planned miniseries and serve as executive producer with McKay Heidicker, Boat Rocker and Untitled Entertainment.

Recipient of a Newbery Honor 2020, the middle school illustrated novel Stories for Young Foxes (Scary stories for young foxes) takes place during the haunted season in the Antler Woods, when no fox kit is safe. When Mia and Uly are separated from their litters, they discover a dangerous world full of monsters. To find a lair to call home, they must venture through fields and forests, facing unspeakable things that dwell in the dark: a zombie who is hungry for their flesh, a witch who tries to steal their skin, a ghost who hunts them through the snow… and other things too scary to mention.

The 2019 book is published by Holt Books for Young Readers and features illustrations by Junyi Wu.
