She-Ra, the princess of power - The 1985 animated series

She-Ra, the princess of power - The 1985 animated series

She-Ra, the princess of power (in the original English: She-Ra: Princess of Power) is an American animated series produced in 1985 by Filmation. A spin-off from the series He-Man and the Masters of the Universe by Filmation, She-Ra was aimed primarily at a young female audience to complement He-Man's popularity with young males.

Unlike He-Man, which was based on Mattel's Masters of the Universe toy line, She-Ra's character origin was a collaboration between Filmation and Mattel. The initial set of characters and premise were created by uncredited writers Larry DiTillio and J. Michael Straczynski for Filmation, while the characters introduced later were drawn by Mattel.

Mattel provided financial support for the series, as well as an accompanying toy line. The series premiered in 1985 and ended in 1987 after 2 seasons and 93 episodes.

On March 22, 1985, Filmation released an animated film based on the series titled He-Man and She-Ra - The secret of the sword (He-Man and She-Ra: The Secret of the Sword). The film consists of the first five episodes of the She-Ra television series: “Into Etheria”, “Beast Island”, “She-Ra Unchained”, “Reunions” and “Battle for Bright Moon”.

A new series, She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, premiered on Netflix on November 13, 2018 and concluded on May 15, 2020.

History

The series follows the adventures of Princess Adora, twin sister of Prince Adam / He-Man, who leads a group of freedom fighters known as the Great Rebellion in the struggle to free Etheria from the tyrannical rule of Hordak and the evil Horde. With her sword of protection, Adora can transform into She-Ra, just as Prince Adam can transform into He-Man.

Born on the planet Eternia to Queen Marlena and King Randor, Princess Adora is kidnapped at birth by Hordak and taken to Etheria. There she serves as a mind-controlled Horde Force Captain before He-Man rescues her. After reuniting with her parents on Eternia, She-Ra decides to return to Etheria and lead the Great Rebellion.

Characters

She-Ra / Princess Adora

She-Ra is introduced in the animated film He-Man and She-Ra - The secret of the sword (He-Man and She-Ra: The Secret of the Sword) such as Force Captain Adora, an agent of the Evil Horde that rules the planet Etheria. She discovers she is the long-lost twin sister of Prince Adam and the Princess of Eternia, having been kidnapped by the Horde leader, Hordak, as a child.

She is granted the Sword of Protection, which parallels He-Man's Sword of Power, gaining the power to transform into She-Ra, her secret identity.

In the 2018 series, a teenage Adora is portrayed as the current holder of the She-Ra title with her identity in the public domain from the 1985 series. She reunites with Catra in the series finale.

swift wind

Swift Wind is Adora's mare, her inseparable companion in adventures. Noble and courageous, she has a companion named Starwind and their young foal. His transformation gives him the appearance of a winged unicorn with the ability to speak. She-Ra occasionally calls her Swifty when referring to her winged unicorn form.

In the 2018 series, she was named "Horsey" (instead of Spirit) by Adora before she was accidentally transformed into a winged unicorn by She-Ra's magic. Eventually revealed that he has the ability to speak, Swift Wind pursues his political agenda of freeing the horses of Etheria.

Bow

Bow is an archer, one of the original rebels. Bow often has to disguise himself when he leaves the magical Whispering Grove, to prevent the Horde from identifying him. An educated gentleman, Bow is nevertheless plagued with personal insecurities. He, like Glimmer, is a rather fiery member of the Rebellion.

Bow is too eager to rush into battle against the Horde, who more often than not capture him, leading She-Ra to rescue him. He develops a crush on She-Ra, whose true identity he does not know. Bow appears to have known Kowl, a member of the Rebellion, for a long time. They have a friendly love / hate relationship and have a lot of arguments where Kowl comes across as the winner and makes fun of Bow.

Kowl has, on many occasions, expressed his dislike of Bow's musical abilities, but Adora seems to enjoy his songs.

He also showed some skill as an illusionist. At various times he made birds appear out of nowhere and disappeared.

Bow was produced as an action figure in the Masters of the Universe Classics toy line. This is the second time the character has been transformed into an action figure. He is the only male figure of the Princess of Power line to have been produced.

The 2018 cartoon series Bow is redrawn as a young archer raised alongside his brothers by their fathers, historians who wanted no association with war and intended Bow to succeed him. He is Princess Glimmer's best friend and also makes use of various types of special arrows.

Arrow

Arrow is Bow's faithful steed. He and Bow seem to share a long and very special bond.

Glimmer

Glimmer, princess of Bright Moon, is the daughter of Queen Angella and Micah. Originally she is the leader of the Great Rebellion, but she renounces the title of Adora. Despite being the former leader of the Great Rebellion, she is naive and sometimes naive.

It also demonstrates moments of impulsiveness. Glimmer comes from a happy family, but his childhood is tinged with sadness. After the Horde arrived on Etheria, his father set out to fight them and was never seen again. Later, when her mother is in battle with the Horde, she too disappears. For many years Glimmer feared he would never see his parents again.

One day, a spy discovers that Angella is being held captive by Hunga, the leader of the Harpies. By this time, Glimmer had established the Rebellion, but relinquishes her title to Adora when her mother is saved by She-Ra. Micah, fleeing the World of the Horde, returns to Etheria for himself and Angella's wedding anniversary, but is subsequently captured by Hunga the Harpy. Thanks to She-Ra's help, Glimmer and Angella are reunited with Micah.

Glimmer can manipulate light, allowing it to emit pulses or flashes to blind or disorient others, shoot laser-like cutting beams or "solid photon" concussive force beams, illuminate large areas with radiant light, create fireworks at the explosive plasma and refracting light to make itself invisible (or other objects).

In close proximity to her mother, she has the power to fly on her own. He also demonstrated limited magical abilities, such as a hold spell, as well as short-range teleportation.

Princess Glimmer appears on She-Ra, the princess of power , his power comes from the runestone known as the Moonstone which he visits regularly to recharge his teleportation powers in line of sight and fire darts of photon energy. Throughout Season XNUMX, Glimmer disagreed with her mother for keeping her on the front lines before figuring out Angella's reasons as the two came to an understanding.

Queen Angella

Angella, Bright Moon's queen and Glimmer's mother, possesses a pair of wings that allow her to fly. Angella is wise and kind, generally loved by her subjects. It possesses vast mystical powers, which are connected to the Bright Moon gemstone, which is itself powered by the light of the three moons of Etheria.

During an eclipse, his powers are drastically weakened. At full strength, she alone proved more than a match for the Horde itself. Its powers are similar to Glimmer's in that they rely primarily on photon energy, but with a significantly greater magnitude than Glimmer's.

Additionally, unlike Glimmer, Angella also has the ability to open magical portals to other dimensions. It also has various spell-casting abilities, strong enough to counter those of Shadow Weaver, as seen in the episode The Crystal Castle.

Queen Angella appears in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, portrayed in the first season as an overprotective mother due to feeling responsible for leading the attack on the Horde that allegedly killed her husband Micah and their alliance became dissolved accordingly.

But by the season one finale, Angella manages to open up with a disheartened Glimmer about her mistakes and the two reach an understanding. Angella later sacrifices herself in the Season XNUMX finale by helping Adora close a portal that threatens Etheria.

A pre-recorded Star Wars-like hologram of her appears to Glimmer, Adora and Bow in the Season 4 premiere of “The Coronation,” telling Glimmer how proud she is of her. Unlike the previous version, it lacked the capability of interdimensional portals.

Princess Perfuma

Perfuma is a member of the Great Rebellion. Cheerful, bubbly and a little careless, Perfuma is a powerful member of the Rebellion. Unlike the other members of the Rebellion, he doesn't seem to be afraid of Hordak and the other Horde Men.

On one occasion, she is captured by Hordak and imprisoned in a prison in the Fright Zone. While a prisoner in the Fright Zone, Perfuma decides she can benefit from a little tweaking. So he escapes and makes his way into the Fright Zone, decorating it with flowers wherever he goes. Hordak is so angered by this that he begs She-Ra to bring her back to the Rebellion.

Being an ecomancer, she has total control over the plants, allowing her to create vines, trees and vast fields of flora at will without the need for sunlight to maintain her plants. Its powers have also been shown to cancel / transform dark energy and fire into cascades of flowers; probably why he doesn't fear Hordak.

Perfuma appears in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power as the reigning ruler of Plumeria and a member of the current alliance of princesses, with a more hippie appearance.

Empress Frosta

Frosta is a valuable member of the Great Rebellion. She is the reigning sovereign at Castle Chill in the Snow Kingdom, an area located at the northernmost pole of Etheria. This area of Etheria was only attacked on one occasion by the Horde, possibly due to the extreme temperature.

Most of the people of Frosta harbor a great hatred of the Selkies, a race of seal-like humanoids living in Galacia, near their homeland, which once fought against them. Frosta, however, does not share his people's distrust of them. When the Horde arrived, these two races called for a truce from their feud to unite against them.

Frosta is able to lower her external and internal body temperature without harming herself, thus radiating immense cold from her body, most often as energy rays from her hands. Frosta is capable of reaching -105 degrees Fahrenheit in seconds and is immune to sub-zero temperatures around her.

In addition, it can freeze the moisture in the air around it turning it into unusually hard ice, thus forming simple objects such as slides, ladders and shields. Frosta can also freeze objects to the extent that they shatter when touched or simply locate a small area with snow.

Frosta is a direct and direct person who is generally not afraid to express his opinion. She later develops a crush on He-Man and does little to hide her feelings for him. For his part, He-Man seems embarrassed at times due to his flirtatious behavior.

Frosta appears in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power as a member of the Princess Alliance, her ethnicity and outfit changed to the Inuit equivalent of Ethereus.

While she was a child who ruled the second largest region of Etheria, Frosta purposely presented herself as serious in the first season before opening up a bit in the second season with a habit of exaggerating while using her powers to create ice armor to increase his offensive and defense.

Princess Mermista

Mermista is the princess of Salineas, an underwater city on Etheria. His father, King Mercier, believes it is best to leave the Horde alone, in the hopes that they will respect his decision and leave him and his people alone.

Mermista knows that the Horde will stop at nothing to conquer all of Etheria and is the only member of the people of Salineas who support the Rebellion. Wear a blue dress on the belly. Mermista can transform from her mermaid to human form.

He has psionic control of the water element and telepathy with sea creatures.

In the English-language version of the 80s show, he speaks with a French accent.

Mermista appears in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power as one of the princesses that Glimmer, Bow and Adora come to ask to join the Rebellion. He had a previous relationship with Sea Hawk.

His personality is somewhat nihilistic and lethargic, but he approaches the Rebellion with the help of the trio. It has also been changed to be the Aetherian equivalent of Southeast Asia.

Netossa

Netossa is different from the rest of the Great Rebellion in that its ability appears to have no magical or mystical source. His skill is proven to be the product of his hard work and practice. He can skillfully cast the nets he holds on his back.

Netossa is so precise in her objective that she is able to capture a Horde Soldier by throwing a net through the bars of his cell door. Netossa has the features of an African American woman.

Netossa appears in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. In this continuity, Netossa's powers are magical, being able to launch energy networks of various sizes, both to trap and as force fields. She is also married to Spinnerella.

Spinnerella

Spinnerella only makes one appearance in the series.

In her single episode, she is shown as a powerful member of The Rebellion. It is established that she and Netossa live in an area of Etheria, which is not controlled by the Horde. When she realizes she has been deceived by Hordak, she turns her power against him.

Primarily a dancer, Spinerella has the ability to spin at high speed, transforming into a human cyclone, able to travel quickly and deflect incoming attacks.

Spinnerella and Netossa are best friends and love to travel together. She is fooled by Hordak into thinking that Netossa has been captured by the Great Rebellion, when in fact the Horde is responsible.

When Spinnerella is told that Netossa has been captured by the Rebellion, she helps the Horde gain access to The Whispering Woods by using her ability to spin at high speed to disable the power of the trees. Although the woods have been shown to keep villains out, it is possible that Spinnerella is able to enter with the Horde as she is worried about her traveling companion.

Spinnerella appears in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. In this continuity, he is a member of the Rebellion who can control the wind and air. She is also depicted with a larger figure, [9] [10] and is married to Netossa.

Spinnerella is voiced by Diane Pershing in the 80s series and Noelle Stevenson in the 2018 series.

Sea Hawk

Sea Hawk is a pirate. He does not possess magical abilities, his abilities are the product of hard work. His skills were developed thanks to the influence of his father, The Falcon.

Twenty years before Sea Hawk joined The Great Rebellion, The Falcon disappeared without a trace. Although his father had instilled good manners in him, Sea Hawk spent many years as a pirate, plundering the seas of Etheria. Next, help the Horde by delivering supplies. He later reveals that he only helped the Horde for the amount of money they paid him.

Under his rugged appearance it is established that Sea Hawk is a good man. When he meets Princess Adora, shortly after his own defection from the Horde, she shows him that what she is doing is wrong and joins the Rebellion in their fight against the Horde.

He usually wields a laser rapier in combat, but later obtains much more powerful weapons from his father, the Falcon. Among these are an Impact Ring, which multiplies its physical blows a hundredfold and projects a protective energy shield in the shape of a hawk; Seven League Boots that allow him to jump over great distances and a Photon Cutlass, which can stun when its blade glows blue and can cut through any substance when it glows red.

Sea Hawk also develops a crush on Princess Adora, revealing that he enjoys spending time with her, and She-Ra is just a fighting partner for him. This leads to Sea Hawk and Adora starting a relationship where they kissed at least twice in the franchise.

Sea Hawk appears in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, portrayed as a hyperactive glory seeker with a habit of setting fire to his ships to ram his enemies. He also has an intermittent relationship with Mermista, constantly flirting with her despite her annoyance.

Sea Hawk is voiced by George DiCenzo in the 80s series and Jordan Fisher in the 2018 series.

Madame Razz

Madame Razz is a witch who lives in the woods of Whispers among other Twiget. Use his abilities to aid the Great Rebellion in their fight against Hordak and the Evil Horde.

Being a witch, she has the ability to cast spells and is able to brew potions in her cauldron. With Broom's help, he can fly. Madame Razz is very distracted and often mispronounces spells or completely forgets them, due to her advanced age. However, they usually have a tendency to work for the best regardless.

The episode "Three Brave Hearts" strongly suggests that Madame Razz is well over 1.000 years old, as she (to Kowl's amazement) is easily able to read a book of spells written in an extinct language on Etheria for a thousand years, with Broom telling Kowl that "The lady is quite ancient herself".

It's the equivalent of Orko in the He-Man series, both as a comic relief and for occasional bouts of wisdom. Also, most of their faces are usually covered by their hats.

Madame Razz is one of three people on Etheria who knows that Adora is She-Ra; it also tells the story of how She-Ra met Light Hope, the keeper of the Crystal Castle. Although they share her secret, neither of them have ever interacted during the series.

In the Masters of the Universe Classics toy series, Madame Razz is listed as Twigget.

In the 2018 series, Razz is reimagined as a slightly senile old woman in the Whispering Wood with a connection to the previous She-Ra Mara, who seems to live time in a non-linear way and has a Russian accent. Madame Razz is voiced by Linda Gary in the 80s series and Gray Griffin in the 2018 series.

Broom

Broom is a sentient broom with face and arms who is friends with Madame Razz and can fly enough to serve as a means of transportation. He also possesses some magical energy and lent it to Queen Angella along with Glimmer and Madame Razz to fight Shadow Weaver.

She-Ra / Princess Mara

Mara was the last She-Ra before Adora. He makes his first appearance in a holographic demonstration made by Light Hope to explain to Adora the She-Ra line at Crystal Castle in the episode “Light Hope”. Light Hope initially portrayed Mara as a failure, citing that her actions broke the She-Ra line for many years.

Eventually, Adora discovers the truth behind Mara's time as She-Ra. She was originally sent to Etheria by the First to study the magic of the planet, along with Light Hope, and given the sword by her superiors. During this time, she befriended Razz and through her learned of the deeper meaning behind the magic on Etheria.

Eventually, he uncovered the truth behind the project of the First: they intended to absorb the natural magic of Etheria's runestones and the princesses into She-Ra as a massive weapon to use against their enemies, called the Heart of Etheria. Since She-Ra was the only being able to resist all power, they built the sword as a means of controlling it.

When Mara discovered this and that the First had reprogrammed Light Hope to fire the weapon at any cost, she attempted to stop the weapon's explosion and hid Etheria forever from Despondos to prevent the Heart from destroying other worlds. This ultimately cost her her life, but she was able to leave a recorded message for Adora explaining everything to her successor.

Kowl

Kowl is a flying Etherian creature and resembles a cross between a koala and an owl. He is a sarcastic and witty member of the Rebellion. Kowl's species was a Kolian but just like the Loo-Kee the Kon-Seal has never been stated in the series where they can be found on Etheria.

His species possesses the ability to fly using its giant wing-like ears, and someone like Kowls' Red-Eyes cousin is able to read the minds of other members of their species if they have the other Kolian's feathers. Red-Eye's ability almost allows the Evil Horde to capture its enemies. Although Kowl lacks courage, that doesn't stop him from trying to help his friends when they need it.

Kowl appears to have developed a strong attachment to mate Rebel Bow. Their love / hate relationship suggests that they have known each other for some time, often implying that they didn't like each other when it was seen that they had a great friendship.

Kowl has also had a one-time rivalry with Imp so much that in one episode, Imp attempts to set Kowl as a spy for the Horde by planting Horde coins in his bed. Some members of the Great Rebellion think Kowl may be a traitor, but Princess Adora firmly believes he is innocent.

Later in the episode, it is revealed that Imp was in charge of the coins and that Kowl is innocent. The rebels apologize to Kowl for not trusting him and he is accepted back into the fold. It should also be noted that Kowl is one of three people on Etheria who knows Adora is She-Ra and has been to the Crystal Castle to see Light Hope.

Kowl does not appear in She-Ra and the Princesses of Power. However, Glimmer has a plush version of the character in his bedroom.

The Horde

The Horde is a fictional intergalactic organization of supervillain monsters, robots and sorcerers on Etheria who occupy the earth on behalf of their leader, Horde Prime. The Fright Zone serves as a base of operations, with connections to both Etheria and Eternia. Among its members are:

Hordak

Hordak (Hordak) is Skeletor's old master, She-Ra's enemy, and the merciless cyborg commander of the Horde who has conquered most of the planet Etheria. He is the brother of Horde Prime.

In the 80s cartoon series, Hordak is a cyborg who can alter his shape, most often into that of a rocket to escape quickly. In the Masters of the Universe comics, Hordak also tries to conquer Eternia, making him a frequent opponent of both He-Man and Skeletor.

Hordak is notoriously short-tempered, often abusing his henchmen (Mantenna in particular, with Hordak constantly sending him down a trap door in his throne room). Despite being evil, Hordak has a sense of humor.

However, in the 2002 series, Hordak wished to reign over all of Eternia. After he and his henchmen defeated the Snakemen, Hordak turned his attention to Castle Grayskull and launched an attack on it. He was defeated by King Grayskull, who banished Hordak and his forces into the Abyss and traps them in an inner dimension.

Somehow, centuries later, Hordak became Skeletor's master, despite the dimensional differences. Hordak saves Keldor's life after he was mortally wounded fighting Randor; in saving his life, Hordak transformed Keldor into Skeletor and told him that someday there would be a price to pay for Hordak's assistance. Later in the series, Evil-Lyn and Count March attempt to free Hordak from his dimensional prison.

Unlike his former student Skeletor, Hordak prefers to rely on science and technology rather than magic. He did not tolerate fools and expected the highest standards of excellence from his henchmen, rewarding them when they succeeded and severely punishing them when they fail.

Hordak is the main antagonist for the first four seasons of the 2018 reboot She-Ra and the Princesses of Power.

His face is pale flesh-colored on the figure but pure white in the cartoon. Initially, the figure did not have the left arm of the cannon as in the cartoon.

The figure only had two normal arms. However, later variants of Hordak gave him a variety of cyborg-like mechanical gimmicks, reminiscent of the shape-shifting powers he displayed in the 80s cartoon.

catra

Catra is the Captain of the Force of the Evil Horde (a position previously held by Adora before defecting). Her trademark is a magical mask, given to her by Hordak, who in turn had stolen it from the queen of the Magicat.

Catra could transform into a purple panther of formidable strength by pulling the mask over her eyes. However, even in human form, Catra had such confidence in her own abilities that she was ready to face Huntara, one of the most merciless warriors in the galaxy.

Catra, like Hordak, is notoriously short-tempered. The comically feline voice bestowed on the character by Melendy Britt belies Catra's extremely cruel and calculating ways. The only characters Catra showed some tenderness towards were her pet lion Clawdeen and the handsome pirate Sea Hawk, although the latter evoked Catra's wrath when paired with Adora.

The vain feline Force Captain has no regard or concern even for his fellow members of the Wicked Horde, although Entraptas seemed to be as close as possible to being a friend of Catra. He despised Adora from her time in the Horde, as she envied the position held by Hordak's adopted daughter. Catra particularly despises Scorpia, with whom she has a longstanding rivalry.

Catra's mask also grants her telepathic control over all cats, and apparently the power to teleport to specific locations as shown in the episode One to Count On. In the toy line, she is the main villain instead of Hordak (which is part of the Masters of the Universe line of games), but also in the Filmation series, she has been described as the main villain in more episodes than any other villain in the world. 'Horde.

Indeed, Catra seemed to be serving Hordak only to amass more power and position for herself. He teamed up with Skeletor to destroy Hordak in My Friend, My Enemy, presumably after learning that Hordak offered to create Kowlil's evil Red-Eyes cousin, his Force Captain. She was also perfectly prepared to abandon Hordak in order to become the Queen of the Magicat.

In the 2018 series, she is portrayed as an anthropomorphic cat with heterochromic eyes who was friends with Adora before becoming her enemy after joining the Rebellion. He confessed his love for Adora at the end of the fifth season.

In the Masters of the Univers Classics toy line, his bio states that he obtained his mask by joining the Evil Horde.

Enter

A Horde scientist specializing in trap design, Entrapta has two long braids of prehensile hair that can trap her enemies. It appears to be a narrow shoulder of Catra. In the Masters of the Universe Classics toy series, her bio states that she was recruited by Catra when the Evil Horde first invaded Etheria.

Entrapta is a skilled scientist and inventor credited with designing advanced equipment for the Horde to be employed in the battle against the Great Rebellion. His specialty is devising various traps for members of the Rebellion. An invention created by Entrapta is the Trapper Tank.

In the 2018 series, Entrapta is portrayed as a more likeable character. She is also canonically autistic, with a member of the show's autistic troupe influencing her writing greatly. He initially joins the rebels despite his obsession with technology which complicates things for them.

But when he is presumed to have died during a rescue mission in the Fright Zone, Entrapta ends up being captured and persuaded by Catra to defect to the Horde with the promise of giving her access to their advanced technology. Although it succumbs to temptation as it provides the Horde with the means to seek out First One technology, it essentially rationalizes as neutral in its abstract quests to learn the secrets of Etheria's ancient past.

He ultimately wins Hordak's favor after impressing him with his ability to understand his advanced research, helping him refine his technology. Entrapta learned what really happened during the Fright Zone mission, but hesitated to trust Adora as he warned her against opening a portal.

Entrapta learned that the portal device could destroy Etheria and refused to complete it, resulting in her exile to Beast Island by Catra covering up her discovery and making her appear as a traitor. She is later discovered and rescued by Adora's team and aids the Rebellion for the rest of the show.

Entrapta is voiced by Linda Gary in the 80s series and Christine Woods in the 2018 series.

Entrapta also appears in the Robot Chicken episode "Slaughterhouse on the Prairie" where she, Catra and Scorpia attack Bright Moon Castle. Intercepted by She-Ra in the midst of a menstruation-induced rage, Entrapta is killed when She-Ra explodes her breasts.

Grizzlor

Grizzlor is a hairy human-beast creature from nature who uses his brute strength when attacking his opponents. Most fictional media have portrayed him as a mindless brute or comically unintelligent. It looks more intimidating in the cartoon than in the figure.

Grizzlor is introduced to the Masters of the Universe toy line in 1985 among the first wave of evil Horde characters. His figure was packaged with the mini-comic "Grizzlor: The Legend Comes Alive!" which portrays him as a sort of urban legend among the eternals, the product of apparent “tales” about a ferocious man-beast who wanders in the night chasing his prey.

After Buzz-Off disturbs his heroic companions with tales of the creature, it later emerges that Grizzlor is a real creature and was hired by Hordak to fight He-Mane the Heroic Warriors. Grizzlor is depicted as a savage and mindless killing machine, which is defeated when shown his own reflection in a mirror; apparently he fears nothing but the sight of his own horrible face.

Grizzlor also appears in many of the Masters of the Universe comic series. One of these is the British comics published by London Editions, which portray him as one of the least intelligent of all evil characters.

In this series he is often used for comic relief and has a childlike mindset, which implies that he is not actually evil and has simply been tricked by Hordak into helping with his schemes. An origin story in a later issue explains that he comes from the jungle world of Jungulia "on the outer edge of the spiral arm of galaxy N24" and is a member of a human-beast race of creatures. Although his race was peaceful, by the age of 428 he had developed a savage rage that shocked his family and stumbled upon a series of powerful weapons in a cave.

His youthful nature led him to see them as toys and to play with them as such. When discovered with weapons by Horde Prime's sata spies, they mistake him for an evil warrior and report him to Hordak, who carried him aboard his ship, erasing all of Jungulia's memories from his mind so that she would gladly serve him.

At first, after seeing the advanced weapons, Hordak mistakenly believed that Grizzlor must possess incredible mental genius, but later, Grizzlor proved that he has no remote intelligence, making Hordak confused as to why Horde Prime wanted him in the Horde .

Grizzlor appears in animated form in the She-Ra: Princess of Power cartoon series, in which the Horde are the main villains. The cartoon series downplays his ferocity, presumably to make his character more suitable for a children's audience.

At times it even seems like he may be more human than animal, particularly in the first episode "Beast Island" where he is competent enough to operate a computer console and command a series of Destructotanks.

However, he is far from smart and is usually portrayed as a clumsy generic villain, constantly ruining Hordak's plans. Although he appears frequently in the cartoon, he has no starring roles and is mostly delivered to background appearances.

Grizzlor also appears in animated form in the Masters of the Universe cartoon series, produced in 2002 by Mike Young Productions, to promote the relaunched toy line. Mattel was planning to release the Horde characters among the next wave of villains, and they were meant to fill the role of the main opposition to He-Man in the show's third season.

The second season episode “The Power of Grayskull” presents the Horde in a sequence of flashbacks, as an evil force of Ancient Eternia. Grizzlor was seen between Hordak, Leech and Mantenna in an unspoken role, and was imprisoned by King Grayskull in the dimension of Despondos along with Hordak and the rest of the Horde. However, as the toy line and cartoon were canceled shortly thereafter, the third season was never made.

Despite the cancellation of the line. Grizzlor made a cameo appearance in a 2018 She-Ra series after appearing in 2's He-Man season 2002, a mini statue of Grizzlor was sculpted and crafted by the toy sculptors the Four Horsemen.

In the Masters of the Universe Classics game series, Grizzlor is a Karrakian from the planet Jungulia who has been kidnapped by the Horde Empire and brainwashed to serve Hordak.

He also makes a brief appearance in the She-Ra and the Princesses of Power episode "Razz".

Grizzlor appears in the Robot Chicken episode "1987," voiced by Seth MacFarlane. Along with Beast Man, he tries to stop Mo-Larr from reaching Skeletor, only to allow Eternian's dentist to use a drill on Grizzlor's eye.

Tom Root voices Grizzlor in the episode "Slaughterhouse on the Prairie" where he accompanies Mantenna in attacking the Whispering Wood and slaughtering the Twiggets, only that She-Ra stops them, and Grizzlor ends up being impaled by (and remains attached to) She - The foot of Ra.

A decade later, he appears in the episode "No Wait, He Has a Cane" in the sketch "Grizzlor and the Secret of the Pubes", where Skeletor shrinks Grizzlor and has him impersonate He-Man's heart-shaped pubic hair in a way that Skeletor can magically turn it on during Castle Grayskull's jazz night, after which Skeletor magnifies him again and the pubic lice he was hatching, which attack everyone.

Horde Prime

Horde Prime is the supreme ruler of the intergalactic Empire of the Horde. Horde Prime was created by Filmation for the cartoon She-Ra, but has since moved on to Masters of the Universe as well.

Horde Prime is the ruler of the intergalactic evil Horde. He only sees himself surrounded by smoke. His true full form has never been seen, although the For Want of a Horse episode indicates he has two heads.

A metallic arm comes out of the cloud of smoke when it is indignant or angry. Horde Prime has a son named Prince Zed who calls Hordak his uncle, suggesting that Horde Prime and Hordak may be brothers or at least brother-in-law.

In the Masters of the Universe comics published in the UK by London Edition Magazines, Horde Prime appears as a regular-sized bearded humanoid with antennae protruding through his helmet.

A Horde Prime action figure was finally released in 2012 for the Masters of the Universe Classics toy line, sculpted by the Four Horsemen. Includes two interchangeable heads, one based on his UK comic design and the other reminiscent of his brother Hordak. This latter head also includes a helmet to represent his Filmation look.

Horde Prime appears as the main antagonist in the fifth and final season of She-Ra and the Princesses of Power, as a cybernetic humanoid version of himself with extra eyes transplanted from his clones, serving as both his personal army and extensions of himself.

Horde Prime discarded one of these clones due to its physical imperfections and sent it on a suicide mission to the front line, the clone instead ended up stranded on the planet Etheria in the empty dimension of Despondos, where he called himself Hordak and built his own division of the Horde. For the first three seasons of the series, Hordak sought to open a portal to the universe to bring the rest of the Horde forces to the planet so they could conquer it and prove that Horde Prime was wrong about him.

In the Season XNUMX finale, Hordak and Catra successfully open a portal that nearly destroys Etheria before She-Ra destroys it, but allows Horde Prime to pinpoint Hordak's location. reconditioned ”but was told to destroy Etheria from Catra after revealing to him the existence of the Heart of Etheria, which he decided to claim as his own.

It was destroyed by She-Ra in the series finale after he freed the Heart of Etheria and restored magic to the universe. reconditioned ”but was told to destroy Etheria from Catra after revealing to him the existence of the Heart of Etheria, which he decided to claim as his own. Horde Prime is voiced by Lou Scheimer in the 80s series and Keston John in the 2018 series.

Writer Emiliano Santalucia revealed that being inside the crystal of Masters of the Universe's first 200x comic series was the Unnamed from The Powers of Grayskull: The Legend Begins !, reveals that the essence of the Unnamed was split in two, one trapped in the crystal and the other taking a mechanical body and becoming Horde Prime. Imp

Imp is a small spy of the shape-shifting Horde. He is despised by the other members of the Horde, aside from Hordak, who enjoys his company. Imp most of the time tries to stay on the right side of Hordak to avoid incurring his wrath. He points out to Hordak when other members of the evil Horde fail in their various missions and encourages Hordak to take his anger out on them.

Due to this nature, Imp is hated by most of the other members of the Horde. It is not only the Horde who have a dislike for IMP, but also the members of the Great Rebellion.

In one episode, Imp attempts to set Kowl as a spy for the Horde by planting Horde coins in his bed. Some members of the Rebellion think Kowl may be a traitor, but Adora believes he is innocent. Later in the episode, it is revealed that Imp was in charge of the coins and that Kowl is innocent.

The rebels apologize to Kowl for not trusting him. Imp's main task is due to its shapeshifting abilities. He is tasked with spying on the members of the Rebellion and reporting to Hordak, who has been shown on several occasions, how to inform Hordak of the Red Knight and the birth of Swift Wind's baby on Unicorn Island.

It appears that without Hordak, Imp has little influence within the Horde, being more like a little dog. Imp is actually quite distinctive in the Horde, as he is one of the few members with the ability to fly.

Imp makes an appearance in the 2018 series. Imp's shape-shifting abilities are not shown, but he is still employed as a spy and can record and replay overheard conversations.

In the Masters of the Universe Classics toy series, his biography states that he is a devoted servant of Hordak whose talents are hated by the other members of the Horde.

Imp's chest shape was released as an accessory with a cartoon-inspired Hordak action figure as part of the Masters of the Universe Classics toy line in 2014. His bio states that he is a devoted servant of Hordak whose talents are hated by the other members of the Horde.

Kyle

Kyle debuted in 2018's She-Ra and Princesses of Power series of which he is exclusive. A rather weak and shy human character, he is the least effective member of Catra's soldiers, often working alongside Lonnie and Rogelio. In a conversation with Swift Wind, Scorpia almost lets it slip that Kyle has a crush on Rogelio. In season 4, disillusioned Kyle, Rogelio and Lonnie leave the Horde together.
