SIGGRAPH: "Migrants", "Meerkat", "I'm A Pebble" win the CG Festival awards
SIGGRAPH 2021 announces the award winners and the lineup of 37 short films, movies, scientific visualizations, breakdowns and more that will appear in the second electronic theater of the Virtual Computer Animation Festival this August. Showcasing the best of CGI storytelling, the Electronic Theater will premiere at ticketholders on Monday, August 9 at 8:00 am PDT and will be available in two versions.
A festival qualified for the Academy Awards, the SIGGRAPH 2021 Computer Animation Festival Electronic Theater received over 400 nominations, which the expert jury reduced to a lineup that highlights the work of 13 countries, including Austria, Switzerland, Poland, United States and Thailand.
For the first time, tickets are available to the public with the choice between general ticket access and a brand new premium ticket that includes a director's version of the electronic theater. In addition to the sworn selections, the festival will showcase a mixture of both new and old curated bonus content as an additional gift for viewers.
"The Electronic Theater is well known in the industry as a unique and innovative storytelling platform, and after the year we've all had it, it's been a pleasure to see how the creativity of the computer graphics community continues to thrive," he said. Kaye Vassey of Epic Games, electronic theater juror at the SIGGRAPH 2021 Computer Animation Festival, added, “I was energized by the overwhelming variety and diversity in storytelling that my fellow jurors and I saw, both through character / perspective and technique. It was incredibly difficult to decide and everyone who showed up should be proud of what they presented. "
From a pool of 14 student productions and 17 professional studios, including world premiere short films by Platige Image SA and Zati Studio / Thai Media Fund, the winners of the 2021 award are:
Best in Show: Migrants | Pôle 3D | Hugo Caby (France)
Jury choice: meerkat | Weta Digital | Keith Miller (New Zealand)
Best student project: I am a pebble | ESMA | Maxime Le Chapelain (France)
