Slime life (in the Japanese original: 転 生 し た ら ス ラ イ ム だ っ た 件, Hepburn: Tensei Shitara Suraimu Datta Ken) is a series of Japanese fantasy light novels written by Fuse and illustrated by Mitz Vah. The story is about a wage worker who is murdered and reincarnated in a world of swords and sorcery as a slime, with unique powers and gathers allies to build his nation of monsters.

Life of Slime (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime)

The light novel was published online between 2013 and 2016 on the user-generated novel publishing website Shōsetsuka ni Narō. Subsequently, the rights of the novel were acquired by Micro Magazine, which published the first volume of light novels in 2014, in all 17 volumes published in March 2021. Vita da slime received a manga adaptation published by Kodansha along with three manga spins -offs published by Micro Magazine and Kodansha respectively, and an anime television series adaptation by Eight Bit, which aired from October 2018 to March 2019. A second season of the anime series aired from January 2021 and an anime adaptation of the second manga spin-off aired from April to June 2021.

History

Satoru Mikami is a 37-year-old normal corporate employee living in Tokyo. He is almost happy with his monotonous life, despite not having a girlfriend. During a chance encounter with his colleague, an attacker comes out of nowhere and stabs him. As he succumbs to his injuries, a mysterious voice echoes in his mind and recites a series of strange commands which he does not understand the meaning of.

Upon regaining consciousness, Satoru discovers that he has reincarnated as a Slime in an unknown world. At the same time, he also acquires new skills, most notably the skill called "Predator", which allows him to devour anything and mimic its appearance and abilities. He encounters Veldora Tempest, a catastrophic "storm dragon" who was locked up for 300 years after turning a city to ashes. Feeling sorry for him, Satoru befriends the dragon, promising to help him destroy the seal that holds him captive. In return, Veldora gives him the name Rimuru Tempest to grant him divine protection.

With his new powers and wisdom, Rimuru earns the friendship and loyalty of the monsters who inhabit the Great Jura Forest, who accept him as their leader and together found the nation of Tempest. As their new nation rapidly grows in strength and influence, Rimuru and his subjects attract the attention of neighboring foreign powers, from legendary monarchs and heroes to demon lords, some seeking to become their allies, while others simply intend to take advantage or destroy them. completely for the sake of their plans.

Manga

Taiki Kawakami published the manga adaptation in Kodansha's shonen manga magazine Monthly Shonen Sirius on March 26, 2015. The spin-off manga, titled That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: How Monsters Walk (転 生 し た ら ス ラ イ ム だ っ た 件 ~魔物 の 国 の 歩 き 方 ~, Tensei Shitara Suraimu Datta Ken: Mamono no Arukikata), featuring art by Shō Okagiri, has been published on Micro Magazine's Comic Ride website since July 28, 2016. A second spin-off manga, titled The Slime Diaries: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime (転 ス ラ 日記 転 生 し た ら ス ラ イ ム だ っ た 件, Tensura Nikki: Tensei Shitara Suraimu Datta Ken), with the drawings of Shiba, has been serialized in the magazine shōnen manga of the Kodans Shōnen Sirius from March 2018, compiled in five volumes in March 2021. A third spin-off manga titled That Time I Got Reincarnated (Again!) As a Workaholic Slime (Tensei Shitara Shachiku Datta Ken, 転 生 し て も 社 畜 だ っ た 件) and illustrated by Shizuku Akechi began to be published in the Niconico website on September 26, 2018 and was compiled into a volume starting on July 9, 2019.

Anime

An adaptation of the anime television series aired from 2 October 2018 to 19 March 2019 on Tokyo MX and other channels. The series was made in the studio Eight Bits and directed by Yasuhito Kikuchi, with Atsushi Nakayama as assistant director, Kazuyuki Fudeyasu who takes care of the composition of the series, Ryouma Ebata who designs the characters and Takahiro Kishida who designs the monsters. Elements Garden is composing the music for the series. The first opening theme is “Storia senza nome” performed by Takuma Terashima, while the first closing theme is “Another colony” performed by True. The second opening theme is "Megurumono" (メ グ ル モ ノ) performed by Terashima, while the second closing theme is "Little Soldier" (リ ト ル ソ ル ジ ャ ー, Ritoru Soruja ) performed by Azusa Tadokoro. 

The series is broadcast simultaneously by both Crunchyroll and Funimation, who stream an English dub. The first season ran for 24 episodes. An original animation DVD was slated for release on March 29, 2019, bundled with the manga's 11th volume. but it was postponed to December 4, 2019, bundled with the 13th volume of the manga. A second original animation DVD was released on July 9, 2019, bundled with the manga's 12th volume. Three more original animation DVDs have been announced, with the third OAD coming out on March 27, 2020, bundled with the manga's 14th volume. The fourth OAD is bundled with the manga's 15th volume, released on July 9, 2020. The fifth OAD was to be paired with the 16th manga volume, which will be released on November 9, 2020.

A second season was announced as a two-season anime, but the first half was postponed from October 2020 to January 2021, and the second half was postponed from April 2021 to July 2021 due to the effects of the COVID-19 pandemic. in Japan . The first half aired from January 12 to March 30, 2021, and the second half aired on July 6, 2021. Eight Bit will still animate the series, with staff and cast members reprising their roles. The opening theme is "Storyteller" performed by True, while the final theme is "STORYSEEKER" performed by STEREO DIVE FOUNDATION. The second opening theme is "Like Flames" performed by MindaRyn, while the second ending theme is "Reincarnate" performed by Takuma Terashima. 

A spin-off anime series based on the manga Slime Diaries: That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime it was first scheduled for January 2021 but was postponed to April 2021 due to COVID-19. The series aired from April 6 to June 22, 2021. Eight Bit will also animate the series, with Yuji Haibara directing, Kotatsumikan writing the screenplay, Risa Takai and Atsushi Irie as character designer and RON composing the music. The opening theme is “Brand new diary” performed by Akane Kumada.

Videogioco

At the Japanese festival AnimeJapan 2021, a free-to-play role-playing video game app was presented, titled Tensei Shitara Slime Datta Ken: Maō to Ryū no Kenkoku-tan (That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: The Saga of How the Demon Lord and Dragon Founded a Nation). It is developed by Bandai Namco Entertainment and will be released in 2021. The game will be released in English under the title That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime: ISEKAI Memories.
