Space Battleship Yamato 2205: A New Voyage (宇宙 戦 艦 ヤ マ ト 2205 新 た な る 旅 立 ち, Uchū Senkan Yamato Ni-ni-zero-go Aratanaru Tabidachi) is a Japanese military science fiction animated film duo produced by Satelight. It is the sequel to Star Blazers: Space Battleship Yamato 2202 and a remake of the 1979 film Space Battleship Yamato: The New Voyage, originally based on the Space Battleship Yamato television series created by Yoshinobu Nishizaki and Leiji Matsumoto. It is directed by Kenji Yasuda (Macross Delta) and written by Harutoshi Fukui (Mobile Suit Gundam Unicorn) with official character designs by Nobuteru Yuki. The first film, with the subtitle Zensho -TAKE OFF-. was released in Japanese cinemas on October 8, 2021. The second film with the subtitle Kosho -STASHA-. will be released in Japanese cinemas on February 4, 2022.
Production
The film was first announced on March 29, 2019 as revealed by Fukui himself and former series director Nobuyoshi Habara along with Daisuke Ono. However, they haven't revealed what format the sequel will be. Fukui revealed the title of the film after the Yamato concert event on January 10, 2020 along with the compilation film detailing the events of Yamato 2202. The official site of Yamato 2202 was later updated with regards to the upcoming film, revealing new staff to take the helm in the production of the film. Kenji Yasuda replaces Nobuyishi Habara as director, while the previous film's returning staff have been hired with Hideki Oka for scripts, Akira Miyagawa for music, and Junichhirō Tamamori, Yasuchi Ishizu and Mika Akitaka for both ship design and design mechanic. On June 11, 2021, it was announced that the films would be a duology set after the events of 2202 and would be a remake of the 1979 film Space Battleship Yamato: The New Voyage. In addition to the subtitle of the first film and its October 8, 2021 release date, information was also revealed about the returning cast to reprise their roles in the film and the introduction of new characters and ship designs. Following the premiere of the first film, it was announced that the second part of the film series will have a release date of February 4, 2022.

Uchū Senkan Yamato 2205: Aratanaru Tabidachi - Zenshō -TECOLLO-, the first of the two films, was released on Friday in Japan. Returning cast voice actors include Daisuke Ono in the role of Susumu Kodai, Houko kuwashima in the role of Yuki Mori, Houchu ohtsuka in the role of Shiro Sanada, Koichi Yamadera like Ablt Dessler, e Kikuko Inoue in the role of Starsha Iscandar. Nobuhiko Okamoto also returns as Tasuke Tokugawa.

Star Blazers: Space battleship Yamato 2199 is a remake of the original 1974 Space battleship Yamato series created by Leiji Matsumoto e Yoshinobu nishizaki. It first premiered in Japan as a series of seven films screened in Japanese theaters from 2012 to 2013, before premiered on Japanese television in April 2013. Uchū Senkan Yamato 2199: Hoshi-Meguru Hakobune anime film later came out in Japan in 2014.
