“Star Wars Galactic Pals” animates the care and maintenance of alien creatures
Lucasfilm launched Star Wars Galactic Pals, a brand new series of animated micro-shorts that teach children everything they need to know about caring for the most adorable life forms in the galaxy. The shorts will run for 12 episodes, with the first six coming out every Tuesday through April 26.
Spin-off of the SF-R3 ("Areas") droid adventures in Star Wars Galaxy of Creatures, Galactic Pals joins M1-RE ("Miree"), another member of the Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts, while taking heals and studies short-tempered gardeners, fussy Hutts, scavenging Jawas, and other creatures and aliens aboard the Youngling Care space station.
“Building on the success of Aree's adventures in educating the viewer about the creatures of the Star Wars galaxy, we saw the opportunity to also showcase some of the galaxy's younger inhabitants,” says Jason Stein, creative director of Lucasfilm Animation Development & Production. "Caring for such a group of young creatures and aliens poses particular challenges that require a specialized member of the Galactic Society of Creature Enthusiasts to manage them, leading to the creation of Miree and her chamber droid Cam-E."
With an upbeat attitude, Miree takes on each new case to educate viewers about the characteristics that make each young person special. “With each short film, Miree shares her knowledge with wit, charm and humor that aim to inspire curiosity and interaction,” adds Stein. "Miree's positivity invites fans to interact with these young people as they celebrate what makes them unique and adorable."
In the series, Miree will take care of a variety of galactic youths, including Ortolani, Huttlets, Jawa, Rodiani, Gamorreani, Gungan, as well as tauntaun, rancor, porg and Loth-cats. The first two episodes, featuring an Ewok and a Wookiee, are now available on StarWarsKids.com.
Young fans and families will find more episodes later this year, as well as themed activities, coloring sheets and more for the new short films, at StarWarsKids.com. Plus, Earthbound youth can test their knowledge of creature care with a new range of stuffed toys inspired by Mattel's Galactic Friends.
