One Piece Episode 962 Story - Changing Destiny! The Whitebeard Pirates Shore!

The battle in the land of Kuri begins between Oden and Ashura. The sheer power of Oden wipes out most of Ashura's henchmen and the two titans quickly cross blades. Oden's followers are running towards the battle scene as the rain begins to fall. Ashura denounces their spoiled capital life, just before Oden uses his two-sword style to end the fight. When Oden's minions arrive, they discover that the battle is over and he is sitting on Ashura's body. Ashura begs for death, but Oden spares him and declares that he has decided to become their king.

Word spreads of Oden's victory and efforts to revitalize Kuri. It will soon be a land of joy and abundance. Oden became Kuri's Daimyo from his father and people rejoice when it becomes a full-fledged province. Perhaps most shocking of all is that Oden asks his followers to become his samurai, moving them all to tears.

Flash forward to six years later, thirty-three years before the present, and strange creatures have arrived on the shores of Kuri. It turns out to be the young Cat Viper, Dogstorm and Kawamatsu. Locals try to burn them alive but Oden sees flames on the shore. He rushes inside and hits the locals with a giant fish, freeing the young trio. It brings them back and feeds them. The young minks are revealed to have a similar symbol in their home. Kawamatsu also reveals his past, that as a fish-man the locals hated him and killed his mother, forcing him to live on scraps. ODen tries to send them away but they have nowhere else to go and be with him.

Oden's follows later on trying to steal money from Yasuie because Oden is incredibly broke. They get caught and Yasuie forgives them, then gives them the money anyway. He tells them to get cleaned up and educated. Over time they slowly transform from delinquents to well-behaved samurai.

Another three years pass and we see Oden arrive at the Capital of Flowers. Now he and his followers all look like Proper SamuraiTM. They shock the population with how elegant and stylish they look, making some forget to breathe as they pass. Oden is there to visit his father, who was rumored to be sick, but it would be their last meeting. On the shore of Kuri, Whitebeard's crew has crashed and decides to go ashore.

wano A pezzo is hit after a hit.

The arc lasted long enough that there were multiple high-impact flashback sequences, and this is in a series known for its powerful flashbacks. I personally don't think Oden's is the best of the series by far - I think it's solid, sometimes awesome - but the anime adaptation is definitely improving the experience. I think it definitely says something when Oden looks like such a big life character in a series with great personalities like A pezzo.

There is also a real sense of the abnormality of the flashback. When Oden and Ashura are dueling, there is that brief moment right after the two sword strike where the water droplets hang in midair as if frozen in time. Later, by the time the sun rises after Oden defeats Ashura, the whole area is flooded with so much light and the bloom increases to give a greater sense of unrealism to the events.

Management also takes a turn in the past. There were many sequences, particularly during the conversation between Oden, Kawamatsu, Dogstorm and Cat Viper, in which the anime seemed to belong to another era. The scene transitions, the comic beats, the paucity of movement, all gave off the air of an anime that aired more than 20 years ago. Heck, Oden's father's messenger even arrives slipping into a scene with a screeching Scooby Doo-style tire noise. These were all brilliant flourishes, I thought, even more ways to separate this past from the present outside of the flashback, but with a more subtle twist.

The real highlight for me was the arrival of Oden and the crew to the Flower Capital. The beautiful black, white and gray with those vibrant pink petals of falling cherry blossoms - great things. The kind of amazing images I'm here for.
