Superbook - the stories of the Bible - The 1981 anime series

Superbook (Anime Oyako Gekijō ア ニ メ 親子 劇場) also known as Animated Parent and Child Theater (ア ニ メ 親子 劇場, Anime Oyako Gekijō), is an early 80s anime television series, initially produced by Tatsunoko Productions in Japan in association with the Christian Broadcasting Network in the United States and most recently produced exclusively by CBN for distribution and global transmission.

The series chronicled the events of the Bible's Old and New Testaments in its 52-episode run. The first 26 episodes aired from 1 October 1981 to 25 March 1982. The series returned as Superbook II: In Search for Ruffles and Return to the 20th Century (パ ソ コ ン ト ラ ベ ル 探 偵 団, Pasokon Toraberu Tanteidan, lit. Personal Computer Travel Detective Team) with 26 episodes aired from 4 April 1983 to 26 September 1983. Between the two series in the first series was the complementary series The Flying House (The Gospel for Children). The Christian Broadcasting Network is producing a new Superbook series and has released 5 seasons. CBN is distributing Season XNUMX, Season XNUMX, and Season XNUMX for free on the Superbook Kid website.

History

The first series, Superbook (Anime Oyako Gekijo), starts at the home of a little boy named Christopher "Chris" Peeper, who discovers the ancient Bible called Superbook that can speak and sends him, his friend Joy (Azusa Yamato) and the his clockwork toy figure called Gizmo the crusader robot back in time during the events of the Old and New Testament. The second series, Superbook II: In Search for Ruffles and Return to the 20th Century (Pasokon Travel Tanteidan), takes place two years after the first series, in which Superbook falls on a computer, giving anyone a chance to see into the past from Christopher's house via the monitor. Ruffles, his poodle, has managed to get lost in time, prompting Gizmo and Christopher's little brother (rewritten as his cousin in the English dub), Uriah “Uri” Peeper, to find Ruffles. While Chris and Joy watch over and control the computer from the present, Gizmo and Uri exclusively experience Old Testament stories.

Set in the 23rd century AD, a boy named Christopher "Chris" Quantum, who is always in trouble, travels with his friends Joy and Gizmo through Superbooks to the biblical times of the Old Testament and the New Testament.
