Funimation announced that Kakushigoto: Himegoto wa Nan Desu ka (What is a Secret?) Will be streamed exclusively. The film will be streamed in the US, Canada, UK, Ireland, Australia, New Zealand, Mexico, Brazil, Chile, Colombia and Peru later this month. The company will premiere the film in English dub of the film at a later time.

The film commemorates the 30th anniversary of Kumeta's career as an illustrator. The film features additional cuts, as well as "another ending" that did not appear in the television anime series. The acronyms are the same as in the original anime, with flumpool's “Chiisana Hibi” (Little Days) as the theme song e Eiichi Ohtaki“Kimi wa Tennen Shoku” (Your Natural Colors) as the ending theme.

The film was released in Japan on July 9th. The limited-edition Blu-ray Disc of the film was launched on the same day exclusively in Japanese cinemas.

In Japan, together with the vision of the film, a manga of two booklets entitled hymegoto. The two manga booklets were available to viewers in the first and second week of the film, respectively, with the first 14 pages and the second 20 pages. hymegoto shows a story set after the end of the manga Kakushigoto designed by Kumeta.

The comedy's story centers around Kakushi Gotō, who doesn't want his daughter, Hime Gotō, to know he is a manga author. The manga comedy focuses on the daily life of a family with a manga artist. In addition to being a pun on the father's name, the ambiguous title can mean "Hidden Things", but it can also be read as "Drawing Work".

Yuta Murano directed the anime on Ajia-do. Takashi Aoshima wrote and supervised the scripts for the series. Shuhei Yamamoto he drew the characters. Yukari Hashimoto he composed the music. flumpool performed the opening theme "Chiisana Hibi", and the missing musician Eiichi OhtakiThe song "Kimi wa Tennen Shoku" (You Are Natural Color) was the ending theme.

The anime premiered in April 2020 and ran for 12 episodes. Funimation streamed the anime as it aired in Japan.

Kumeta (Sayonara, Zetsubou-Sensei) posted a four-page introduction to the manga in Kodansha'S Shonen monthly magazine in November 2015, to then publish the first complete chapter in the same magazine in December 2015. The manga ended in July 2020 and has 12 compiled volumes. Kodansha comics is releasing the manga digitally in English.
