The Annecy Film Festival selects 38 short films for the competition

The selection committee of the Annecy Film Festival has announced the official selection for 2022. This year, more than 1.347 short films (152 more than in 2021) from a hundred countries were presented for examination. With directors and directors equally represented, the selection is divided into:

38 films in official competition
Eight in the Out of Limits category
17 in Perspectives
Nine in young audiences

“In recent years we have noticed a strong trend in short film productions. Typically, they are always longer and sometimes with more ambitious narratives. Selection 2022 reflects this development as there are fewer films than usual. This means, even more than in previous years, that our team had to make tough choices and not include some quality work, ”said Marcel Jean, Artistic Director.

“In the end, we believe it is a diverse selection with a great balance between new blood and works by established artists: Amanda Forbis and Wendy Tilby, Anna Budanova, Špela Čadež, Kōji Yamamura, Claude Luyet, etc. This year, when it comes to the origins of the films, we have noticed that the United States and Japan have had an explosion of dynamism in independent productions and, thankfully, as we pay homage to Swiss cinema, Swiss films are top notch. order. Finally, we are thrilled with the selection of Blind Spot, by Tunisian Lofti Achour, and Akplokplobito, by French-Togolese Ingrid Agbo, two films that show the liveliness of African animation, which we honored last year ".
