The Archie Show (also known as The Archies) is an American musical animated sitcom television series produced by Filmation for CBS. Based on the comic book character Archie, created by Bob Montana in 1941, The Archie Show aired Saturday morning on CBS from September 1968 to August 1969. The animated series featured main characters including Archie Andrews, Betty Cooper, Veronica Lodge, Reggie Mantle and Jughead Jones.
In 1969, the show was expanded to an hour and renamed The Archie Comedy Hour and included a half-hour featuring Sabrina the Teenage Witch. In 1970, the show became Archie's Funhouse and featured parts of live-action footage.

Filmation continued to produce other Archie television series until 1978, including Archie's TV Funnies (1971-1973), The US of Archie (1974-1976) and The New Archie and Sabrina Hour (1977-1978).
The show revolves around the seventeen year old rhythmic singer / guitarist Archie Andrews and his teenage friends from Riverdale High School, including: his best friend and greedy drummer jughead jones , the wise bassist reggiemantle , a beautiful rich and spoiled singer and keyboard player Veronica lodge and the attractive, blonde, tomboy singer, guitarist, percussionist Betty Cooper . On the show, the friends appeared as a bubblegum pop band with Archie on lead guitar. The Archies had a real-life # 1 hit single in 1969 with their song "Sugar, Sugar", written by Jeff Barry and Andy Kim.
The Archie Show used a laugh track, the first example of a Saturday morning cartoon with a colloquial title. Thanks to the success of The Archie Show series, most of the other animated series began to use traces of audience laughter in the background, until the early 80s. Previous animated series that used laughter tracks, such as The Flintstones and The Jetsons, aired in prime time with the target audience consisting of adults.
A typical episode began with Archie's first story, introduced by Archie and occasionally a different character. Then there was a segment of the “dance of the week” that started with a teaser, then after the commercial break Archie introduced the dance, followed by the song of the week performed by The Archies. After that there was a short line followed by the second Archie story. All 17 episodes of the first show were presented in this format.
The show was broadcast in different formats and with different titles. Some materials are believed to have been completely lost or destroyed after Hallmark Entertainment bought the Filmation catalog in 1995.

The Archie Show (1968-1969)
Archie and his New Pals (Archie and his new friends) (TV special; 1969): Big Moose and Reggie compete against each other for the role of class president; Sabrina is introduced as a new Riverdale High student.
The Archie Comedy Hour (1969-1970): Completely new material, now in a one-hour format, contained two segments of Sabrina, one at the beginning of the show and one at the end, with a new joke segment "The Funhouse" in the middle that was vaguely based on Laugh-In and also contained regular segments like Sabrina's Magic Trick and Dilton Doily's Inventions. There was a “Side Show” segment of one-bar beats, followed by an Archies music segment.
Archie's Funhouse (1970–71): An expanded version of the previous series' Funhouse format, now with a live action kid audience and the 'Giant Jukebox'; a musical incarnation of the series, originally stuffed an hour with segment repeats from The Archie Show.
Archie's Funhouse(1971-1973): Archie and the gang run a television station, featuring a selection of cartoons within the series featuring classic newspaper comic characters.

The US of Archie (1974-1976): Archie and the gang reinterpret various events in American history.
The New Archie and Sabrina Hour (1977-1978): new episodes of Archie and Sabrina, as well as repetitions of previous material. The series was then split into two separate 30-minute shows: The Bang-Shang Lollapalooza Show (Archie) and Super Witch (Sabrina).
The New Archie and Sabrina Hour was later split into The Bang-Shang Lalapalooza Show and Super Witch during its original run on the net. While Archie's first shows were airing on CBS, the latest series was on NBC.
Hero High (1981) was to be part of The Kid Super Power Hour with Shazam! with Archie and the gang as superheroes; however, this series was changed at the last minute because Filmation's rights to the “Archie” characters had expired during production and were not renewed. [6]

Sabrina the life of a witch (1970-1974): Rebroadcasts of both L'Archie Comedy Hour s Sabrina episodes and previous Sabrina series episodes, as well as new episodes, at her time slot.
Groovy Goolies (1970): retransmission of the Goolies episodes of the previous series in their own time slot.
The Bang Shang Lollapalooza Show (1977): originally part of the aforementioned The New Archie and Sabrina Hour.
Super Witch (1977): also originally part of the aforementioned The New Archie and Sabrina Hour.
The Groovie Goolies and Friends (1978): syndication package, also containing episodes from other Filmation series.
The "individual" versions of Sabrina the Teenage Witch and Groovie Goolies are currently offered by the current owner DreamWorks Classics.
