Mattel's famous Barbie doll leaves her Malibu home to attend a prestigious performing arts school in New York City in Mattel's new animated film Barbie: Big City, Big Dreams (Barbie: big city, big dreams). The hour-long musical, which premieres on Netflix on September 1, introduces a new main character named Barbie “Brooklyn” Roberts!

After 20 years, 36 TV specials and countless YouTube episodes and series, the latest original Mattel Television film marks the expansion of the Barbie universe with the introduction of a new protagonist, another Barbie Roberts. The two Barbies find they have a lot more in common than their names, like their shared dream of making it on Broadway. Of course, they also find that competition is not just about winning; it's about striving to give your best while bringing out the best in your competitors!

The special also introduces:

  • Emmie, a shy but famous pop star who was "Brooklyn" Roberts' childhood best friend and also attends the summer program at the Handler Arts Academy in disguise to study without being recognized.
  • Rafa, an aspiring costume designer and self-proclaimed fashionista, Rafa quickly becomes the best friend of both Barbies. Quick with jokes, this creative whirlwind has a soft spot for Barbie and her dog, Gato, the true love of her life.
