"The Legend of Hanuman" the success of viewers in India

The second season of the series The Legend of Hanuman (The legend of Hanuman) has made big waves in the Indian streaming market. According to Mumbai-based consulting firm Ormax Media, the second season, streaming on Disney + Hotstar, outperformed all other movies and shows in India's competitive streaming market on paid video on demand services last week.

According to Ormax's estimates, the show attracted 8,5 million viewers in the first 10 days alone. Ormax Media measures its data using its Stream Track tool and carries out a weekly survey of the streaming audience in India.

The Legend of Hanuman which premiered in January, is produced by Graphic India. It follows the adventures of Mahadev, who incarnates as Hanuman to serve Lord Rama and transforms from a mighty warrior to a god battling the forces of darkness.

Series creator Sharad Devarajan (along with Jeevan King and Charuvi Agrawal) is a big name in both comics and animation across India and the US. Having collaborated with Stan Lee in the past and having created Baahubali: the lost legends, spoke on the viewer's milestone that The legend of Hanuman had achieved: "This is a tremendous milestone for original Indian animation and we are honored for the answer."

With the rapid increase in streaming services and original streaming content in recent years, animation that caters to a wider audience outside of a young demographic in India can be challenging. But Devarajan marks the success of the series with a few different elements. “The Disney brand is synonymous with animation and I have no doubt that this association has had a huge impact on the success of the show. Having this launch on Disney + Hotstar as their first animated Hotstar Special is an extraordinary responsibility and an honor that we all took very seriously. ”

In addition to the launch on Disney +, Devarajan also spoke about the production capacity behind it Hanuman. “Hanuman is the quintessential Indian hero whose legends and stories have inspired over a billion people, including myself. However, most of the previous film and television releases of Indian myths have all been limited in their production capacity to show the vast visual world of mythical beings ... we were able to portray it visually, through high quality immersive animations, for the first time."

Devarajan noted that he also took inspiration from Japan, including how Hayao Miyazaki came close to redefining anime; “In the same way that directors like Hayao Miyazaki have redefined anime with Principessa Mononoke, our goal was to create a transcendent moment for Indian animation and let audiences experience the medium as a new form of sophisticated storytelling that would do justice to the complex matter and deeply spiritual themes of our mythologies. One of our goals in the series was to make the Indian audience forget that it is "animation" and simply be drawn into the story, the world and the characters. "
