An exclusive preview trailer for “Tabby McTat,” this year's BBC One and BBC iPlayer Christmas animation, has been released in preparation for its holiday debut. This eleventh animated adaptation from BAFTA-winning and Oscar-nominated producers Magic Light Pictures tells the emotional story of the friendship between a musical cat and street performer Fred, set on the streets of London.

The film, based on the illustrated book by Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler, stars Rob Brydon in the role of Fred, Ṣọpẹ́ Dìrísú in the role of Tabby, Cariad Lloyd as Prunella, and other very talented actors. The January '24 issue of Animation Magazine offers an in-depth retrospective on the making of “Tabby McTat,” available starting December 8th.

Magic Light Pictures has also made three animated idents for 2023, exclusively for BBC One. These identifiers, lasting 40 seconds each, include scenes of “Tabby McTat” and the family enjoying a peaceful nap under the Christmas tree, the stick man and his family receiving gifts from Santa Claus, and the Gruffalo's son having fun joking with the Gruffalo and his Christmas tree.

The idents will air on BBC One during the Strictly Come Dancing show on December 2 and will be visible throughout the Christmas period. These new animated identifiers, created by Red Star 3D, will join four identifiers previously created in 2020, inspired by “Zog and the Flying Doctors”, “The Gruffalo” and “Son of the Gruffalo”.
