How to play?

No More Heroes III is a third-person action-adventure video game, in which the player takes on the role of professional assassin Travis Touchdown. The video game marks a return to the series' open world format last seen in the first game and sees the player explore a man-made metropolitan archipelago, undertaking various side activities such as part-time job minigames and assassination missions. Unlike previous video games, the open world is divided into five unique islands, one of which includes the base fictional city of the series, “Santa Destroy”. The player can cross and tour the islands with Travis' new modified bike; the "Demzamtiger", although travel between targets can also be accelerated, using a fast travel system. To progress in the game, the player must accumulate enough money from missions to pay an entry fee for a ranked battle. Then the player has to fight through the levels with various enemies and obstacles, culminating in a single boss battle at the end.

Combat takes place with sidearms in real time. As in the previous main video games, the combat is mostly centered around Travis' characteristic "Beam Katana"; a sword with a blade composed of energy. The player can perform various light and heavy combos with the sword. Successful hits increase the player's "kidnapping gauge", while taking damage deplete it, rewarding the player's ability to inflict undisputed damage and providing various benefits. When an enemy's health has been sufficiently depleted, the player receives a directional warning to perform a "Deadly Attack"; a powerful unstoppable attack that deals heavy damage to adjacent enemies. On successful enemy executions, the player triggers a flurry of attacks. If the player falls in battle, they are given a random chance of a stat boost on attempt.

New additions to the basic combat mechanics of the series include the “Glove of Death,” reported by Travis Strikes Again: No More Heroes. The Death Glove allows the player to perform a teleportation dropkick and can be equipped with three additional unique abilities that can aid in combat, which can range from psychokinetic throws to installing turrets that automatically fire projectiles at enemies. All skills work with a reload timer. If the player hits a jackpot on the Slash reel, represented by three sevens, the player can activate “Full Armor” mode, which increases the player's attack options and allows him to fire bullets.

The player can return to their motel room between missions to update various stats, such as health and weapons, which now use a unique form of currency compared to previous entries. Scrap pieces derived from battle missions can be used at the motel to build new Death Glove chips, and the player can also order consumable items in the shape of sushi that provide players with stat boosts in battle, such as reducing Death Gauntlet cooldown. From the motel room, the player can also play minigames with Travis' cat, customize his wearable outfit, join a combat tutorial room, or use a time machine to revisit past bosses.
