The Quattrocchi smurf - The Smurfs 2 - the animated film

I hate the Smurfs! The famous phrase of the evil Gargamel has returned to echo on the big screen! From 19 September, in fact, all fans of the little blue characters created by the Belgian Peyo, can enjoy the new feature film I Puffi 2.
As in a pop up book, the adventures of the world's most famous blue creatures come to life for the second time. Quattrocchi reads the story of Smurfette, or rather, her misadventure in a book with the figures that come out of the page.

Gargamel, trapped in the real world at the end of the first feature film, is now in Paris, where he is hailed by the crowds and considered the best illusionist in the world. Eternally on the hunt for the magical `` blue essence '' of the Smurfs, that is the substance that makes them blue and, at the same time, increases his magic, the sorcerer devises a new diabolical plan. With the same magic formula he had already used to create Smurfette, he creates the Brats, Vexy and Hackus, a couple of creatures similar to the Smurfs, but with a spiteful character. Soon, however, Gargamel realizes that something is wrong. The Brats, in fact, come very close to the Smurfs in appearance, but they are not in all respects the same as the originals: they are gray and do not have the blue essence! Only a Smurfette spell can turn them into real Smurfs! She too, in fact, was originally gray like the Brats, but once she turned blue, she entered the community of Papa Smurf, fleeing from the evil sorcerer.

In order to transform the Brats into real Smurfs, Gargamel decides, with the help of Vexy and Hackus, to kidnap Smurfette, the only one able to reveal the secret of transformation. It is then up to Tontolone, Quattrocchi, Vanitoso and, of course, Papa Smurf, help their friend. They return once again to the world of humans, where they meet friends Patrick and Grace Winslow and, thanks to their help, after various ups and downs, they manage to save Smurfette and, as in any self-respecting fairy tale, good triumphs over evil! Smurfette, after all, is attracted to the two Brats, who are what she was originally, but, convinced that her real family is the Smurfs community, she brings in two new inhabitants. And so Vexy and Hackus, once their skin color changed from gray to blue, are recognized as Smurfs and enter the magical little kingdom.

The animation technique of The Smurfs 2, of high quality level, is a mix of computer graphic and live action, of great visual impact. The interaction between digital characters and humans amazes for the ability of realization: the cat Birba, for example, more true than true, is a prodigy of 3D animation. As in the first feature film, the images on the big screen alternate with great naturalness, blending different action plans and capturing the attention of both adults and children.

With the exception of the two new characters (the Brats), the narrative structure and funny gags of the sequel remain essentially the same as the 2011 feature, with a few exceptions. What changes, in addition to the location, which from Manhattan becomes New York, is the background vision that animates the whole adventure. If the first film was supported by the personal will of affirmation of the individual Smurfs, which from creatures inserted in a compact group were distinguished by their own specific peculiarities, the sequel focuses on theintegration. The two Brats, in fact, go from antagonists, allies of Gargamel, to real Smurfs, becoming in effect two new inhabitants of the blue community. Perfectly integrated into the miniature village, Vexy and Hackus, once their skin color changes, can be welcomed into their new big family.

Directed by Raja Gosnell, The Smurfs 2 hosts the actor's last appearance Jonathan Winters (to which the film is dedicated), who died when production was completed, on 11 April 2013. The two Smurfs feature films are, to date, among the most successful films for children, capable of capturing the attention of both children than parents. They are supported by a balance that is as delicate as it is well constructed, made up of funny gags that trigger laughter and more subtle jokes evidently intended for adults.
