The story of World Trigger

In Mikado City (280.000 inhabitants), one day suddenly opens a "door" to a different world. Monsters called "neighbors" start appearing from the gate. Humans are initially overwhelmed when their weapons prove useless against neighbors, until a mysterious organization appears capable of repelling attacks from neighbors. The organization is called the National Defense Agency, or "Border", and has appropriated Neighbor technology called "Triggers", which allows the user to channel an internal energy called Trion and use it as a weapon or for other purposes. By activating a trigger, the users' body is replaced by a battle body made of Trion which is stronger and more resilient.

Four years later, the people of Mikado City got used to the occasional battles with neighbors and returned to more or less everyday life. The border became popular. One day, a mysterious white-haired student named Yūma Kuga moves to the local school. Kuga is actually a strong humanoid neighbor, a fact he wants to hide from Border. In the school he meets another student, Osamu Mikumo, who is secretly a C-class trainee Border. Since Kuga is completely oblivious to life in Mikado City, it is up to Mikumo to guide him through it and stop him from being discovered by Border.
