The video game industry joins the digital Summer Game Fest only

It was to be a great summer for the gaming world, as the hype was based on the upcoming consoles from Sony and Microsoft. Then came the coronavirus, forcing the cancellation of real-life events, among others, the large Electronic Entertainment Expo (E3), which was supposed to take place in Los Angeles in June. Take part in the Summer Game Fest, a new initiative that aims to keep up the momentum of industry news.

The Summer Game Fest is an online event that started earlier this month and will end in August. It describes itself as "a season of digital video game events for publishers, select playable content, game events and more" and promises to be a centralized platform for the type of advertising, exhibits and demonstrations typically taking place in and around E3 (and other similar events).

The festival was born of video game journalist Geoff Keighley, producer of the annual Game Awards. It has lined up an impressive array of official attendees, including Microsoft, Sony, Electronic Arts, Bungie, Blizzard, Square Enix, Riot, and Bandai Namco. (No sign of Nintendo, which was planning to attend E3 this year.) The festival plans to broadcast events on Facebook, Twitter, YouTube, Twitch and other major platforms.
